sam kriss (holocaust denier) tweeted about how he wants to burn poppies (which is apparently very serious fukkin business) in front of the troops his prime minister had patrol the streets after the Grande terrorist attack and he got a billion replies, eventually deleted because of "threats to his family"

i would have assumed that the USA was the uncontested leader in troopsucking, and that only maybe Israel could even think about stepping, but I really underestimated the Greatest Britain
#205
Yeah that one UK troop that got its face all melted in the Falklands is frequently asked for their opinion about, like, anything, which is odd
#206
i dont know what burning poppies signifies and i refuse to learn
#207
it's like burning a Support Our TRoops ribbon

i am impressed at the tenacity of stretching 59 tweets out of the premise "got the 2nd most votes ever" which could be rebutted with the five syllables "population growth" or the three "trump is third"

lol i was looking into the construction of "got more votes than anybody not named obama" and sure enough obama got more votes than her both times. 5 million more in 2008

what's for certain is that both hillary and trump both lost a substantial amount of votes from people who reported voting for the candidates from 2012 from their respective parties. deadken screwed this up in an article and thought that trump received fewer votes overall than romney but later it was corrected so let's speak no more of it.

To be fair, most of the millions of people that were disenfranchised shortly before this election with voter registration ID laws and through the crosscheck system would have voted for Clinton.

I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed:

And on the pedestal these words appear:
'While hentai (until now, I thought it was called manga) Was on
Screen as part of a search to prove to my wife tentacle porn exists, what'
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

^ this should be done and would likely get a ton of eyes on the candidate because of the surprise support it's likely to get and the outdated kneejerk reactions to that so gj man.

was discussing this with some folks and as nice as it would be, local officials don't have the jurisdiction to meaningfully impact mil bases and forts and such, which are federal. i guess they can occasionally deny permits for stuff.

something tells me that the person who posted it understands that local officials don't open and close federal bases so following that line of thought start thinking about why that approach would be a good idea anyway

i dunno. if it's a Discourse thing, wouldn't it be undercut by appearing to be either a) someone who doesn't understand the office sought or b) someone who's using it to build profile to ultimately pursue a higher office, thereby indicating that they don't even want the one they're vying for

I don't think any of the best-known US socialist candidates go in with any real anticipation of electoral victory so much as boosting visibility and promoting the movement at the street level. but in a twist, local offices are the ones with any appreciable chance of actually landing independent candidates, which probably exerts more pressure not to leave oneself open to the charge of kookiness

the main counterargument to any of the above i can think of is "trump," which admittedly may be a very good one in its way

i think they would probably leave themselves open to charges of coolness and others to charges of suddenly wanting to vote in a local election that would otherwise likely be contested solely by people building profiles to pursue a higher office
