Hey Al, turns out the population generally being a bunch of potentially well-meaning but ultimately ignorant apathetic goobers bumbling around occupying themselves with fidget spinners and porn doesnt actually preempt the nation from being a credibly dangerous terror on the world stage. in fact quite the opposite!!!! You hear me "Weird" AL?

wow this is like a peak settler colonial idea:

With the fervent hope that accordion master and all-American goofball Weird Al can bridge the seemingly uncrossable cultural divide between our two nations, Oliver’s Hail Mary musical missive—complete with Weird Al’s messages of peace and the fact that Americans are really too self-involved and “mostly harmless” to bother invading North Korea—finds Al (picture of universally beloved Tom Hanks unfurling behind him) singing and squeezing as if all our lives depended on it.

Liberals honestly believe the American empire is "mostly harmless"

i feel like it's been a big thing in the united states as long as i've been alive that a lot of people there don't see the correlation between being allowed to not care about major world events and how many foreigners their government kills every year and think the former means the latter is made up instead of the latter being the necessary condition for the former

#691
one of the load-bearing columns of the Western pop culture idea of "terrorism" over the last decade plus is that you absolutely have to care a whole lot about at least one or two big ideas about the world to contribute financially to a murderous organization and that's the problem and if people could stop caring about things, in the manner of a United States bourgeois person, every place would have a great standard of living and both history and war would end
#692
it's funny because in the decades before that, it acted as the same deal for the idea of the Asian Communist and i guess it's going back there since the U.S. news press now wants to pretend that Obama and Clinton never destroyed Libya etc.

Why did the dprk build a huge nuke instead of taking the suggestion of my ancom discord to arm every citizen with a pvc potato gun? I guess that explosive might is not so palatable to the regime, when it is distrubuted democratically amongst its subjects...

Japanese and US military forces are taking part in joint live-fire drills on Japan’s Hokkaido Island in the largest exercises ever held between the two allies.

Service members from Japan’s Self Defense Forces (JSDF) and US Marines Third Division began the drills, dubbed Northern Viper 17 (NV-17), in the Japanese city of Eniwa on Wednesday.

Some 3,500 troops are taking part in the 18-day war games, which will include rocket artillery exercises and other live-fire operations.

The united states, an imperialist nation which has obliterated at least three sovereign states in recent decades, currently lead by hot-headed mentally ill former television star Donald J. Trump, displays awesome offensive military firepower during the largest live fire exercise conducted with the unapologetic Japanese state.

(North) Korea, first colonized by the Empire of Japan in the pre-war period, then invaded by anti-communist American forces in the post war period, who has never invaded a foreign state and has only fought for its sovereignty, conducts a hydrogen bomb test on its own soil. A bomb first developed in 1952, and makes up of approximately .01% of the current worldwide nuclear arsenal.

It's hard to say what we should do. Should we invade North Korea? Yes. I believe the answer is yes. And here are my reasons:

1) When that tourist in North Korea video taped those people in the car dealership I noticed how the clerk was having an imaginary conversation with one of the customers. It made me very uncomfortable.
2) sounds like they got a bad case of the botulism

North Korea prisoner Otto Warmbier had no signs of torture – coroner

Fred and Cindy Warmbier told US TV networks on Tuesday that their son had showed signs of torture, including teeth that appeared to have been “rearranged” and hands and feet that were disfigured.

...

But Sammarco, who examined Warmbier’s body after his death in June, said there was no clear evidence of physical torture – including no recently broken bones or damaged teeth.

“We’re never going to know, unless the people who were there come forward and say: ‘This is what happened to Otto.’”

Warmbier’s body displayed a few small scars, all but one of which could be traced to medical instruments, she said, adding that the Warmbiers’ TV interviews had prompted her to publicly reveal her findings.

“They’re grieving parents. I can’t really make comments on their perceptions,” she added.

I notice South Park has done an episode on North Korea which was... not as terrible as expected? The depiction of Kim was pretty muted, in fact I don't think he said anything onscreen at all, which is a vast improvement on the old Saddam character. And the gist seemed to be that it's kind of dumb to worry about them starting a war, that it would only happen if Trump said some particularly stupid shit he wasn't able to walk back, and that he should shut up. If that's their hot take we're at kind of an interesting point in the culture.
