I'm sure they would like to but if you make birth certificates meaningless, the only people who can demonstrate existing citizenship are naturalized immigrants.

Or: White people regardless of where they’re from, whether or not they have a comic WWII era Nazi priss German accent, etc., since that’s who this would really be designed to exclude from its oversight and who the target constituency wants to see defended and protected. Republicans aren’t Larouchites, I don’t think they really give a fuck about British or Europe-cracker “invasion” so long has most of the immigrants from those places are racist Red-haters who adopt U.S. nationalism with the nervous gusto of conversos, which they will be. Then there’s black people who can already be oppressed and restricted through other vectors, and in the few high-profile circumstances that doesn’t work they can be accused of having secret parentage native to the African continent, and so on.

Like, the bourgeois apparatus can cancel your Whiteness card at any time if you become a political problem and even recent jurisprudence in the U.S. has made more allowances to protect de facto white supremacist policy concealed by legalisms than it has intervened to prevent it, so no reason for a right-wing government not to start there. Worst possible outcome from their POV is that the courts make them rewrite their shit, and they don’t have time to do it before jumping opportunistically to the next issue, but their voters still give them credit for it and then some other bourgeois party leader, doesn’t matter which party, gets it done later after the “conversation” has been marinating for a while.

To the extent there’s a real intended policy here beyond just shoring up the state through support from whites of the “voter” classes, it’s probably to bring back the “progressive” race/nationality quotas of the the early 20th century based on the quack race science to which Trump and his key allies & constituents subscribe, which 1) is practically unchanged from that era, or from any era of science, since, as Gould has described, it’s not really science according to its own data, and 2) always allowed exceptions in either direction across the thin white line when the perceived threat of class politics or social unrest demanded it (or just when someone powerful had a particular friend or enemy). Individual “Anglo” or “Nordic” types became mighty dark-looking, “foreign influences”, if they fell under suspicion as socialists or anarchists whether or not they were U.S.-born, let alone U.S.-born blacks, and deportation was not only exercised in a lot of those cases, it was treated as the “nice” solution to be used when assassination by the state might cause embarrassment.

What’s funny to me is how one bloc of the bourgeoisie has gulled another into self-sabotage, or whatever has happened there, that the Democrats have helped this along in the current era of politics by matching their opponents’ party-opportunist Sinophobia with a matching Russophobia of their own, and have even adopted anti-Red rhetoric whole hog again for the purpose. As though the anti-socialist/purist-nationalist aspect of that scare-mongering weren’t the enduring part of it that led them down that path, and as though the nominally left-leaning bourgeois party in a two-party system weren’t the ultimate loser between the two in that exchange of accusations.

I mean, does anyone really foresee such a policy, ending birthright citizenship, being applied in a comparable way to people born in the U.S. to British citizens vs. those born to Mexican citizens, let alone to the children of Mexican day laborers in Irving vs. their O.C. booj counterparts whose parents own stock in Univision? Or is it gonna be like every similar policy in Europe, a class-mediated program of racial hygiene where whiteness is bought and sold for the out groups?

And if & when the bourgeois-politics opposition looks for test cases to try to get the new policy overturned, who are they gonna pick? What will those people look like? How much emphasis will be put on signifiers of class status such as degrees from top schools, “owning their own business”, and so on? On no prior trouble with the law between their “hard-working” immigrant parents, meaning they never found themselves the target of immigration authorities, for whatever reason? How much of a feel-good story is it for the “left” liberal to see a good, clean, capital-accruing, sure-‘nough White as the evidence of their tolerance? And what does that say about the policy the U.S. government enforces now, and the policy that might follow the restoration of birthright citizenship after a hypothetical loss of it, and how different or similar all of them would really be if tested by a period of widespread social upheaval without any corresponding widespread optimism about the potential spoils of U.S. imperialism abroad?

plot twist: naturalization processes retroactively deemed illegitimate

Making citizenship essentially adhoc for non-whites is bound to garner even less resistance from liberals, because once it's in place they can pretend it's all decided by some meritocratic, technocratic basis. The #resistance line on the "caravan" is Democrats brazenly salivating over exploitable labor--"oh, 5,000 people who will mow our lawns and do our laundry, how horrifying!" If they're already at this point, then a bipartisan bill that allows the government to pick and choose who's in and who's out isn't too far off, especially with impending climate disaster and a warmonger in power in Brazil. A means test for citizenship across the board? That's practically a moderate democrat wet dream

i'm so sick of idiot leftists pretending Troops are good because no troop ever called me n- busted me for riding dirty. yeah the cops get away with shooting an unarmed guy most of the time. they don't get away with doing 360 rotational fire because somebody farted. the cops also kill around 1000 people a year. if the troops had only killed 1000 iraqis a year we'd be ecstatic
#649
woke troop-apologizers do understand that there's nothing new about police killings and the modern era of taking them at least a tiny bit seriously is driven entirely by cell phone footage and black people organizing on social media, right? and can maybe make the inference that those factors cut slightly differently in a war-zone where people speak a foreign language???????
#650
a big difference is that overseas, digital video can be used to show how cool it is when people take down U.S. thugs from range with rifles

I saw a guy in Walmart today with red SS bolts tattooed on his leg. He had the military bro getup on, so probably """not""" a Nazi, but instead the classic LF meme favorite Scout Sniper (Schutzstaffel). Lmao

“Leftists” become troop apologists for the same reason they get into the “everything would’ve been bette right Trotsky won” line—it’s easy as shit. If it wasn’t for the success of BLM in exposing the utter brutality of cops they’d be salting police unions right now. Us militarism is still deeply entrenched even in some small working class pockets so they can say that the army preys on the working class (true to an extent but not an excuse) and wash their hands of it, whereas if someone made the same argument about police they can tell the true story of cops being structural defenders of white supremacy, because it’s recently been picked up by mildly respectable publications. They won’t come around until the Nation starts calling the army baby killers, which will be approximately never.

Complaining you’ll never convince people the U.S. military sucks isn’t an excuse either though. It’s weak and pathetic and also false

To clarify im of course not saying this—only that the small but vocal leftists in the US who end up with outsized platforms think. If they actually talked to working class people they’d find antiineptialism to be one of the mos unifying issues

Big takeaway from this election is that Rick Scott is now a senator and closer than ever to opening the first of the seven seals.

I'm probably going to try and write something on "community prosecution" soon and the contemporary sophistication & ideology of police and prosecutors stalking people with records. I idly looked up a D.C.-based Wikipedia propagandist's real name that he had previously used there and had the admins try to wipe from the site before becoming an admin himself, and it took me down a rabbit hole of white papers and puff pieces that led to the dungeon lair of the New York County DA that all the NYC cyclists want dead, Cyrus Vance's kid. One of the NPR stories on the whole deal was pretty naked about how the bright side to all of this was supposed to be cops and DAs harassing people who had been busted years before on pot charges, the sort of thing that Democrat-friendly news organizations could crow about without fear of audience backlash while Obama was still in office. Eric Holder made his name as an "innovator" with those programs, which have been pitched to community leaders in impoverished neighborhoods as the nice-guy snitch op that really works.

Brothel owner Dennis Hof posthumously wins Nevada assembly seat

Three weeks after famed brothel owner Dennis Hof died at his Bunny Ranch, Nevada voters elected him to office.

The self-described Trump of Pahrump, who had turned 72 shortly before his Oct. 16 death, cruised to a win against Democrat opponent Lesia Romanov in the Pahrump-area state Assembly, earning about 70% of the vote.

“It’s kind of like Moses,” his campaign manager, Chuck Muth, told Think Progress ahead of the election. “He’s not going to make it to the promised land with us…but we hope he’s watching from the great beyond.”

Because Hof died after July 4, his name remained on the ballot and the county clerk’s office posted notices at all polling places that the candidate was dead.

From here, the board of county commissioners will replace his empty seat with a member of the deceased candidate’s party.

Hof was found non-responsive by porn star Ron Jeremy, who was in Nevada celebrating the entrepreneur’s birthday along with Sheriff Joe Arpaio and Grover Norquist.
