i will consider critical support for 4chan if they adopt the correct position on the clock tower.

democrats so entrenched they can forget they're doing politics... like our line that "your indian-land house is no longer private property" is one thing, but i read a lawyers guns and money post once where the guy supported speeding tickets, and i'm like buddy, at least call it a humanitarian cop intervention or something

#4740
"I love paying taxes" is an elder meme of the Bush-era Democratic Party blogosphere. That man saw the Michigan Wars of 2008, the Florida Refusal, delegates falling like beach houses in a hurricane... he didn't get that tattoo to remember, he got it because he can't forget.

ive seen a bunch of articles recently that are like, the chinese banned the big bang theory, the guy from the daily show, and disneys live action winnie the pooh movie about being a small capitalist business owner, and i dont really understand how any of these are supposed to make me dislike china.

i might have the chance to visit china in a few months and personally i am looking forward to being in a bazinga free society, however briefly

you should film yourself clandestinely watching the big bang theory in the hotel lobby whilst giving breathless, hushed commentary about how the indifferent staff and passers-by must all be brainwashed state informants as they go about their ordinary lives around you without caring

#4745
freezing in horror in downtown beijing i fumble desperately in my pocket to silence the big bang theory theme music ringtone suddenly blaring from my iphone but it's too late - hundreds of red guards stream out from alleyways and shopfronts and bundle me into an unmarked vehicle

i've been looking at stuff on youtube about shanghai and beijing just because i'm really excited and like to get a visual impression of what i'm in for. youtube being youtube though, it offers me a bunch of super obnoxious yank expats showing off their bartering 'skills' and things like that, and in particular a video featuring 2 of these chucklefucks apparently from different youtube channels meeting up to share their pros and cons about shanghai and beijing and which they like better. the very first con they give for beijing is 'Feels very communist'. they gripe about the '1984' vibe because there are hammer and sickles 'everywhere' and soldiers marching around and stuff. and that it's not just a vibe but that police control of behaviour is very tight. but then in the same breath that they're actually much more lax on the law there in terms of foreigners riding scooters around and stuff like that. all in a video they recorded while casually strolling around a public park and happily uploaded to youtube for all to see. ah, the oppression.
#4747
incidentally, if i never hear another youtuber say 'what that being said', or 'to say the least', it will not be soon enough
#4748
it's weird hearing that sort of thing because i did not get the sense of control at all. there is a lot of 'cover your ass' security stuff, like a bit of a paper trail, but it's not really that ominous. it's just a normal country. there are security hotspots but probably not all that different from like parts of india or whatever. i don't mean it's good for people who want to rock the boat or whatever just that it's the same visitor experience as anywhere else at similar levels of development. the only thing i'd say is the hyper-cliche thing which is still true: it's very easy to get sucked into the glitzy parts of urban development and just revel in the price differentials and such but the strongest memories i have are when i just wandered off into the side streets and bought street food etc.
#4749
I will pirate radio the audio from Big Bang Theory episodes into China and become famous through the television show of John Oliver.
#4750
i mean, in terms of flags and militarisation and the general vibe, i'm pretty sure i would find parts of the US far more intimidating than anything in beijing. these youtube yanks seem to just get extra freaked out by the communist aesthetic even though they're happily living and working there. anyway if i go i will be there primarily for study, won't have a lot of free time to explore but i'm really just looking forward to meeting people and learning something about the place first hand and hell yes eating food.
#4751
sly westerner tricking the chinese salesman into selling him a useless tchotchke for a 500% instead of a 1000% markup
#4752
i barely noticed the communist aesthetic when i was in public there. the more jarring thing was like going to a city and seeing that the downtown appeared to be sponsored by pepsi, with pepsi banners hanging from every streetlight for a large area. i wrote my masters paper on chinese law by the way. it was not a good paper. but i learned a little bit about chinese law.
#4753
that's very cool! i know basically nothing about chinese law and the study trip would be an intensive introduction to it. i have questions for you but i think i'll just PM.

I imagine part of the unease US settlers have in these sorts of situation is because unlike back home these groups of uniformed men aren’t there to protect their class interests. I’m sure a lot of these tourists/ expats rarely interact with cops but now they are experiencing a very small percentage of the anxiety oppressed people here have living in Pig Nation. Or they’re just YouTube goobers idk

now that i've learned that the revisionist chinese party supports pepsi over coke, i'm going to have to renounce all support for them and label them non socialist.

i did 3.5 weeks in china to visit a friend and the only time I saw a cop do anything was when they seperated a white guy who was waling on a guy for trying to pickpocket him, then gave the pickpocket a truncheon to the gut after they fished out his special pickpocket tongs

check out the military museum in beijing, it's cool as fuck, lots of captured ordinance from Korea
