I'm probably missing something glaringly obvious here.

They wanted to talk to me and figure me out (and recruit me) of course. But I was up to speed enough that I mentioned I saw them burn the flag on the 4th of July, and that I liked how fast it went up in a big whoosh, and how they locked arms and grouped up when that angry fascist guy tried to attack them, but he couldn't do anything. I said the word "disciplined." And the RCP member beamed at that and then we both looked at this giant photograph on the wall of RCP cadres marching in unison wearing those shirts that say revolution on them, and they said that if you want revolution you need discipline. And I'm like, you know, I totally agree. Anyways they were very nice.
For me, it's really nice to finally have places to actively discuss and promote communism irl and it's really great to see such a warm reception for these ideas.
The other day I was listening to a pop song though and I was able to figure out the chords really fast because they were simple so maybe if I just start learning pop songs it'll help build my ear.
i too want to ascend to play lots of weird shit but i would agree that studying more approachable music is very helpful up to a point (for me it's reggae)

Yeah but I don't like tabs. I can read music. About five years ago I was not "good" by any means but I was a lot better, I learned a lot of jazz music off sheets, knew my modes etc. I started off with classical guitar a longer time ago and before that played violin so reading music has never been too much of an issue for me (subdivision remains, or has become, more difficult as I've got rusty).
However I really just want to develop with much more fluency the ability to hear things and be able to play them, to understand harmony etc.
It's funny the other guy mentioned Snarky Puppy, I was listening to the Jacob Collier thing with him the other day because I'd ran into Collier in Manhattan very briefly (I was in a rush) and think that little event inspired me again (unfortunately his handshake transferred me no powers).
