For the Media and Public Opinion:
On August 18, 2016, Syrian regime warplanes struck civilian areas and Asayish Security Forces’ headquarters in Hasakah city. Simultaneously, regime forces randomly targeted the city with artillery and heavy gunfire – killing and injuring tens of civilians. This has led to a great fear among Hasakah residents, forcing them to leave their homes and flee the city.
Previously, there were heavier clashes between Asayish and regime forces inside Hasakah – yet warplanes were never utilized by regime forces.
At a time the People’s Defense Units (YPG) and the Democratic Syria Forces (SDF) have achieved yet another success in the fight against Daesh (ISIS) terrorists, using warplanes and heavy weaponry to target residential neighborhoods interprets into an attempt to undermine the good results of Manbij offensive, and backing Daesh. This, too, means the regime sees Daesh’s losses as its own – to accomplish its sordid plans, the regime hopes for the remaining of Daesh. By implementing such actions, the regime is committing a suicide.
Deceiving the public opinion, Syrian regime claims “there is a ceasefire in Hasakah”. To this moment, regime forces are severely shelling all neighborhoods in Hasakah, applying all types of weapons.
As the People’s Defense Units, in face of these brutal attacks on our people, we shall not remain silent. To protect the people, we will strongly stand against the assaults, and respond to those killing our people.

that's some pretty unforgiving rhetoric. doesn't look like it's the first time there's been isolated fighting between them, though, and previous occurrences didn't lead to a general breakdown in the ceasefire. hopefully this is similar
Syrian Army warned the Asayish in Hasakah twice to halt the shelling of civilian neighborhoods. First time, the SAA shelled them from Kawkab

it's better to emphasize the obvious propaganda purposes the kid is being exploited for, how "dusty boy sitting" instantly exploded as the biggest syrian story in months, much bigger news than the beheaded kid or all the equally sad photos of kids hurt by rebels out there.
they show a photo of another hurt kid but only to compare bloodstains lmao

Hank got it. It's a reminder of the irony of shit like the NPR headline "Can one photo end a war???"
The media spraying pictures of a dirty kid in an ambulance across your face as signs of an unspeakable horror committed by a regime that america must bomb and fuck and destroy seem to have a really flexible standard on what level of hurt kids represents evil incarnate.
I'm not trying to minimize the horror the syrian kid had to have been through. But fuck every one of the ghouls flogging it to get attention that don't say a word when that partial kid was the only survivor america left out of his whole family. That's what we leave in our wake, america has no standing to criticize anyone.

The reason everyone was surprised when Mosul fell was that their garrison had 60,000 troops. It turned out that 2/3rds of those were on permanent leave through scams organized by their officers. Most of the rest (including the officers) just bugged out when they realized they would get no backup. The number of ISIS fighters was estimated at 1,600.

"Samer al-Ahmed remembers the size of the small hatch near the bottom of his cell door because he was regularly forced to squeeze his head through it. The prison guards would then straighten it out, so his throat was pressed against the edge of the hatch, and jump on his head with all their weight, until blood started flowing across the floor."
lmfao ridiculous
The plucky rebels of al Qaeda have helpfully turned random buildings into 'hospitals' for their fighters (and storing their weapons/shouting from) with fake doctors and without telling anyone except the white helmets, these guys are heroes as long as you don't do any independent investigation whatsoever
