in new york i was staying with two of my cousins who id never really got to know before what with them living across the atlantic.... theyre both big whiskey drinkers and weed smokers, one got married at 18 and divorced soon after and now lives in a one-bedroom apartment with her eight year old daughter, the other is a fuckin jazz musician, my family seems to be of a broadly similar nature

I just googled incel and I didn't know there was a term for what I am. I feel like I'm party of a community right now. The LGBTI community.

whats wrong with puritanism

tends to be a bit preachy imho

i'm glad if people find their own nirvana through asceticism and discipline but it doesn't mean i want to hear their prescriptions for my life.

well fine but i dont see how that pertains to puritanism, hedonists are far more preachy and pushy in my experience, since their values and lifestyles are institutionalized in capitalism whereas puritanism requires the sovereignty of church and community

not that i like to draw the distinction between puritanism and capitalism since they are part and parcel of modern governmentality but you get what im saying

Yeah and that’s a good point I thought of just after I posted it: what is consumer capitalism if not preachy?

Hmmm, puritanism is a pretty nebulous term though.

I dunno, I just don’t like the fun-police I guess

the idea that puritans never had fun is ridiculous tbh. they werent even anti-sex or anything. these are deeply engrained stereotypes in post-settler nationhoods that say a lot about what our present values are, that they require this sort of launching pad and a certain trajectory of increasing "progress" coupled to hedonism and anarchy etc.

I don't think hedonism is neccesarily a bad thing though. You only have one life and sometimes reckless gay abandon is just what the doctor ordered

I look at it a bit more subjectively than that. More wasteful than what exactly: learning? Disciplining oneself? A waste of a metaphysical spirit? I don’t quite understand.

I mean it’s pretty rare that people will find some great spiritual transcendence through hedonism but so what, a lot of people fail to find it elsewhere too.

hedonism is inefficient and self destructive. enjoy life properly according to protocol and you will maximize your pleasure

Hedonism doesn’t mean atheistic……raving or the act of group sex could be considered deities

Think outside (or in) the box

That’s a little patronizing I think, just because I don’t believe doesn’t mean I lack the empathy to see what belief can bring to people.

Keep in mind I’m not like an archetypical hedonist, I just got out of a two-year committed relationship and i work a 9-5 job. I just like Fun and letting your hair down and irreverence.

I don't see why it has to be bad for mental patients to shit themselves, if anything it shows that they are more in touch with the Real than us. What is more liberating, more existentially human than wallowing in feces?

Seems more 'logical' than say, wearing a black, all-encompassing garment in the middle of the desert.

#516
eat, drink and be merry. be kind. respect others. don't be a pussy. the secret of happiness is not much more than this.
#517
actually its very easy to answer that question, the answer is that shitting yourself smells and feels bad, therefore according to hedonism you shouldtn shit your self
#518
'hedonism' is a sort of whirlwind of self-indulgence that very few people can sustain for an extended period, both for practical and psychological reasons. it's not being a narcissist, or a degenerate drug addict/fornicator, or a perpetual under-achieving slob, all of which are just depressing.
