talked with an old co-worker and a whole bunch of people under the insurance monsters in the u.s. just got thrown off their coverage at the end of January because their doctors didn't send response letters in time to comply with a loophole written into the mental health parity law specifically to allow the companies to purge their rolls of the people least likely to be able to handle an appeal. the response letters were a kafkaesque nightmare in the first place because they required health care professionals to lie about various diagnoses and pretend their patients can be cured through a few months of treatment.

but because the entire ritual is bullshit designed to prey on the vulnerable nearly every appeal letter from a medical professional will succeed, the insurance companies are just kneecapping people in the middle of the race and seeing how many people struggle back to their feet, so if this happened to you, ask your provider to write the letter and focus your efforts on getting the money together to pay them to do it if they claim that's required by your signed agreement. MIT professor Andrew Lo and Dr. David Weinstock at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute say it’s time to create a long-term health care loan.

“The basic idea is for individual patients to have access to health care loans, not unlike a mortgage or auto loan or student loan,” Lo said. Patients would “borrow from a loan company to pay for these extremely expensive therapies and amortize the payments over a period of time, say five to 10 years.”

oh boy can't wait to hedge against a bunch of financial instruments consisting entirely of poisonous and vile health care loans that people can't pay
#1389
Don't think of it as a loan. Think of it as an investment in the exciting field of continuing to be alive. A growth industry: everyone needs it!
