Wife's ex-boyfriend came to house and demanded money from her towards new penthouse in NYC. What do we do in this situation since he came all the way from ? (self.legaladvice)
Last Wednesday nite, my wife and I were eating dinner when we had a knock at the door, and a guy showed up in NYPD uniform, he told us he was John (that's not his real name), explained he was her ex-boyfriend, showed us his police ID and told us he had "some business to attend to that only he could discuss with my wife".
We're a young couple, 29 and 31, with a 3-year-old daughter. I'm from SoCal, wife's a Floridian who I met some 8 years ago, we've only been married for.... 2 years now.
I thought, he's a cop, let him in. He explained how he'd come from NYC because he needed to.
Unfortunately, it got into an argument between my wife and him, I could hear him pleading and yelling at her for money to help him get a penthouse in NYC, he said he couldn't survive on a cop's wage in Manhattan with a wife and 5-year-old kid and the argument got heated.
I saw the guy take his shirt off in my house, and he had what looked like some gray crop top-style binder or sports bra on and he was asking my wife what she thought of it and she was telling him to put his shirt back on. Why would a guy have a sports bra/binder on if they weren't a transman? (and I know this guy isn't, my wife's shown me old photos of him from when she was 18 and dated him back then... she knew him in her neighborhood in a suburb of Orlando).
We both told him "No, you're not getting a loan towards a penthouse" but he'd left the house with some of our snack foods and a bottle of vodka, plus a handbook on our Chrysler minivan, and he said "I'll be back. I know your email, your employer, everything, you're on facebook, and you're gonna fuckng pay me a loan towards the penthouse, I'm not going to any shitty loan company, you're wealthy as fuck." (my wife told me he'd said this before he left). As for my wife's employer... well, she's freelance and she has a contract with one company to exclusively write for a small publication (under a pseudonym).
I feel so angry and don't know what the hell to do. Since the guy came from Manhattan to LA, who do we complain to about this cop?
Need legal advice before this goes stalker-ish. My wife is already stressing over it, and she's got an important work conference to attend in a weeks time.
What do you guys suggest?
commenters vacillate between "this guy is probably not a cop" (OP confirms he is) and "sounds like this guy is having a mental breakdown and needs support" (this is normal cop behavior)

I try to fight alienation and be a cheerful person even in this disgusting metropolis and it only causes more psychic discord.
why must we shuffle onto these sardine cans while avoiding eye contact and pretending like there isn't a homeless man having a psychotic episode.
why does the bourgeoisie talk about the first world metropolis like it's just Animal Crossing but with artisanal delis and Bikram studios instead of apple trees
why does prince Harry's fiancee buy her fancy cheeses around the corner from where people piss on my stairs and try to sell me drugs
why can't I afford therapy
