Chile, Seeking First-World Status, Tackles Santiago River Mess

Now, Chile's drive to become Latin America's first developed country is spurring the cleanup of the Mapocho, a $312 million project that is part of a plan to turn Santiago into a world-class city serving as a regional hub for foreign companies.
...
Finance Minister Andres Velasco has described Chile, which has Latin America's highest credit rating, as moving into the final stretch on the road to becoming a developed economy. Per capita income has more than tripled since 1990 to $8,864, the highest in South America and on par with countries such as Poland and Lithuania, according to the International Monetary Fund.

why "third world" outdated or silly term

"developing world" even worse and weasellier term for it implies those poor benighted nations just need to Embrace Light Of Neoliberalism and then they can become just like fat white ppl

I went to clasificadosonline.com (which translates to 'online classifieds'), the premier ebay-esque online classifieds website on the island. I found that it had much more posting than the local Craig's List website. After performing multiple searches I found that I couldn't get any real boats for a price that was withing my budget (like 2000 bux), but I could get a waverunner which would be tight. It also became apparent in the course of my research that I couldn't store a boat in the street in front of my apartment because it would be stolen / vandalized so additional costs would be incurred for storage. My primary conclusion is that I will not ever get a boat.
