dog update: petey bit the crap out of my arm when i tried to pick him up to take him down stairs the other. like i reached my arm out and he snapped down on it quick 2 times LIKE BAM BAM then bit my hand. my arm is hella bruised but its okay because i know he's super old as well as uncomfortable and, Folks, Lets Be Honest Here, chances are i probably taste delicious so i can not fault him for that

hey swampman i have a black lab & i wonder about her obsession with fetching things.

i took her on a walk on the beach today & met loads of dogs looking to play (she loves playing with other dogs), except she was focused only on this stupid stick she found.

its a similar vibe to when i get home & she gets real excited but her #1 priority is madly run off to find wherever she left a tennis ball or something

whats the deal??

ok, what was she doing with the stick? chewing on it, giving it back to you, running around like a maniac, growling at other dogs that approached, or what.

she has the mentality of Must Complete The Mission To Bring The Stick further along wherever we are going (its the same for tennis balls, just i didnt have one today)

she sorts of brings it back, except i havent trained her right.
when i call her she will drop the object and come to me, or else drop it and immediately start digging furiously... if i wait around she will eventually drop it at my feet & i will throw it for her to chase.

with dogs if she has no ball she will run around & play wiht them; if she has somehting she will just run past them
