Most people need to move around the world and communicate with others to fulfill their needs as human beings. House arrest wasn't thought up to punish 21st century bubble boys/communists who chose a monastic life of video games, internet porn, and Dominos delivery.

ironically that "lie repeated 100 times" quote is itself... a lie, its variously attributed to goebbels or whoever and you cant find it in any of mao's published material etc

also im pretty sure theocracies tend not to be nation-states. i mean unless you just like granting the anachronistic claims of nationalist historians willy-nilly or something
#60
More important than whether pre-1950s Tibet was technically a nation state or not--there have always been countries larger and smaller than it which don't fit that model--is whether it was ever treated recognized by anybody as a sovereign entity independent from China in modern times. The overwhelming evidence is no.

It's not sourced, so it's not deliberately false, it's more like unintentionally misleading.

Where does it say that Tibet was a nation-state in the European sense? Also, this distinction is stupid to begin with and typical of everything I hate about historiography as it's taught now.

Why do you have to be so autistic about defining the word nation? Everyone can grasp based on the context of the response that it's about the country and the government of Tibet, the status of which is closely connected to the rights of Tibetans. Namaste.

Defining concepts is a way of restating ones prejudices, I think. To do history is to look at what what was said and done, and what reasons the individuals had for doing them. I don't know if that's the same as studying the material world... if you mean archaeology can contribute important facts, then yes, otherwise we aren't on the same page...

China refused to recognize Sikkim as Indian until 2003 based on its one time status as a tributary vassal of the Qing. Things can change.
