EmanuelaOrlandi posted:The third, and probably the clincher, was the “kill yourself” comment. An exhortation to suicide, while wrong for the same reasons stated above (unnecessarily hostile, unproductive), is wrong in this case for even more, less obvious reasons. One, I was talking to a person presenting as a woman. What I said is a form of violence and a selfish wielding of male privilege, not to mention that it harkened to hyper-masculine tendencies of homicidal aggression. Even more pernicious was the fact that I directed this at a trans person. Trans persons in the United States have as high as a 41% suicide attempt rate. This would be like telling a person who has survived parental abuse that “I’m gonna beat you like a red-headed stepchild.” It’s an incredible display of cis-privilege.AHAHAHAHAHHAA
the great thing about this is that its like just the phrasing he used is the problem, not that the whole aggressive messiah complex these people have that is antisocial and psychotic

lolI emailed the physicist mentioned in that video asking about the possibility of the "code" being a result of a cosmic evolutionary process and he gave me a cool reply back:
Jim posted:Dear Ms. (mudcrabs),
Please call me `Jim' as that is the form of address with which I am most comfortable.
Thank you for your message regarding my participation on Krista Tippett's ON BEING NPR broadcast. I hope you found it edifying and enjoyable.
I also note there is an ON BEING affiliated webpage at
http://being.publicradio.org/programs/2012/codes-for-reality/
where the discussion receives even more elaboration.
At your convenience, leisure and totally without obligation, may I invite you to explore some of the links on my homepage
http://umdphysics.umd.edu/people/faculty/135-gates.html
as a way to continue my on-air presentation?
There are a couple of things that I would offer to your observations.
As you can see from the first website above, there I wrote an article in 2010 discussing the strange result on unexpectedly finding these information-theoretic structures within the realm of equation related to supersymmetric theories such as Superstring/M-Theory. This essay is entitled `Symbols of Power' and was mostly the reason that Ms. Tippett invited me back onto her program.
However, the essay itself was the result of an editor at `Physics World' who had viewed a presentation I gave in 2009 at the Perimeter Institute. On my homepage, there is a link denoted by `Q2C Festival' which if clicked will lead to an on-line video presentation of my 2009 talk. Especially, I would draw your attention to the title of that talk, ``Does Reality Have a Genetic Basis?''
This has been a long-winded way of saying, `Yes,' I have indeed thought about the fact that the codes uncovered by the research I have led also may be an expression of some sort of evolutionary genesis. I have not written anything on this possibility, but I have worked out in my mind the logical scaffolding for this.
Indeed, the evolutionary interpretation is as bizarre as the simulation one. I am hopeful that in some venue, I will soon be able to write on this and it will most likely be at the popular-level not the technical scientific one.
The idea that we have found something akin to genomics can also be seen in some of my other research works that I have not highlighted for non-physicists. These can be seen at
http://arxiv.org/abs/0902.3830
http://arxiv.org/abs/1112.2147
on-line. However, in the words of one of my physicist friends, these are, ``raw theoretical physics not meant for ordinary human consumption.''
I commend you on your powers of observation and reasoning. You are only the second person, having heard one of my presentations, who has made this logical leap.
All the best,
Jim
that guy is really cool and i hope they prove once and for all that none of us actually exist and rather we are merely a figment of the imagination created by the combined sum total of a bunch of random synapses firing between various amoeba living with an organic fart cloud floating in space, and thus making God, the creator of the known universe and that to which we all pray, a literal fart.
Reason: Called Jesus a Fart.

one thing about the context of slogans like "combat liberalism". by liberalism, mao meant laxity, not like liberalism in the sense of the bourgeois. like "combat liberalism" means if you see a friend talking bad shit about the party, you argue with him instead of letting it slide. it has nothing to do with like being a vegetarian or whatever.
cut it out with this "context" shit. i want to convince myself that my irrelevant personal choices make a difference and im going to fucking do it

what's better is that like when a "personal inclination should be subordinated to the revolution" line is used in a modern marxist/maoist insurgency, they don't just mean "oh don't complain about small things". they mean "if you try to quit we'll kill you". i think people forget that like most communist armies are basically the taliban with left-wing pamphlets. this is a good thing though.
