have other portlanders talked to you about portlandia, and how that one friend they have was in it? bcz that happened to me several times. the show seems completely toothless.

anti-portlandia sentiment is too mainstream now, we need an anti-anti-portlandia backlash

did you ever scoff at not needing to read joyce or annie dillard or other freshman lit because you were going to get 80k starting and non-major grades don't even matter

never. i did scoff at shitty english composition assignments teaching me methods in visual analysis. but it was a welcome diversion from problem sets.

tbh, i did have a grim view of people in the humanities who were in it because they viewed a degree as an obligation and lamented their classes.

also, arts and humanities majors in science classes are just plain depressing. as a TA for an 'astronomy for poets' type class really exposed me to the number of people who don't know basic algebra and would rather cheat.

#111
when i was in school most people in the humanities viewed their science/math knowledge as a lost cause but the reverse wasnt really true, fwiw
#112
the worst classes are probably the senior seminar econ classes populated only by econ students, where the idea of rationalism by any means is just second nature to everyone and you get all kinds of creative positivist takes on the world around us

Ask one of them how much it would cost to have him take a gun and shoot himself in the face. that is the most fun you can have with an economist
