Our model for Sweden shows that, under conservative epidemiological parameter estimates, the current Swedish public-health strategy will result in a peak intensive-care load in May that exceeds pre-pandemic capacity by over 40-fold, with a median mortality of 96,000
The way this shit causes white people's brains to go into maximum infection mode like a cordyceps fungus is starting to make me believe it really was made in a lab

i don't think anyone knows anything, imo that's just the white house trying to pose as if they still have any authority or power and they're definitely responsible for making important decisions. states are sending national guard troops to escort PPE shipments to hospitals to protect them from federal seizure, they're making their own border control decisions... there's some real fucked momentum

Cases and deaths are literally speeding up and there hasn’t been anything close to a “peak” here.
Researchers analyzed medical records of 368 male veterans hospitalized with confirmed coronavirus infection at Veterans Health Administration medical centers who died or were discharged by April 11.
About 28% who were given hydroxychloroquine plus usual care died, versus 11% of those getting routine care alone. About 22% of those getting the drug plus azithromycin died too, but the difference between that group and usual care was not considered large enough to rule out other factors that could have affected survival.

today i also watched the latest update from Didier Raoult (the French dr pushing this, about whom I've been posting a lot)
and it looks like their general mortality rate is the same as everyone's, ~2%, but they report their mortality rate with treatment to be 0.4%.
he points to this site that does regular global surveys of physicians to see sentiment & treatment efficacy https://app.sermo.com/covid19-barometer -- which I have done some digging into, and apparently it's a private forum where doctors "are anonymized by the use of usernames", but verified to be actual doctors, and it pays those doctors per post if lurkers (the pharma industry, primarily, afaict) judge their posts to be valuable in some way. i am trying to imagine how this would affect the posting dynamic, and i think the best way we could figure this out is if lurkers pay me $1 per post. until we are done that research, i just have to assume the sermo survey population is maybe ok but probably biased towards big pharma.
there's a lot of data in there on physicians' opinions of treatments, and some other info if you dig through the analyses, for example it seems that chloroquine is administered more broadly outside the US and seems to have some positive impact, but inside the US it seems to only be given to severe patients. And "April 17th key finding: 25% of global physicians agree that healthcare workers should take hydroxychloroquine to prevent COVID-19 infections." it doesn't seem to make sense for this website to be in the pocket of Big Chloroquine, since it's cheap as shit, but anything's possible
i've noticed that lots of liberals have in their mind that the world (their world, anyway) is going to have to shut down 12-18 months until a vaccine is developed. the culture war terrain of covid seems to be continuous cuz you see this familiar religious faith in "science" and you see anti-vaxxers being pre-scorned. the reality is there has never been a vaccine developed for a coronavirus so there's lots of uncharted territory and any sort of rushed vaccine could lead to disaster. probably not worth worrying about though because there's a chance this thing just kinda naturally gets extinguished and the deployment of a vaccine would be unnecessary and way too unprofitable

The leader of the most prominent group in the US peddling potentially lethal industrial bleach as a “miracle cure” for coronavirus wrote to Donald Trump at the White House this week.
In his letter, Mark Grenon told Trump that chlorine dioxide – a powerful bleach used in industrial processes such as textile manufacturing that can have fatal side-effects when drunk – is “a wonderful detox that can kill 99% of the pathogens in the body”. He added that it “can rid the body of Covid-19”.
A few days after Grenon dispatched his letter, Trump went on national TV at his daily coronavirus briefing at the White House on Thursday and promoted the idea that disinfectant could be used as a treatment for the virus. To the astonishment of medical experts, the US president said that disinfectant “knocks it out in a minute. One minute!”
He went on to say: “Is there a way we can do something, by an injection inside or almost a cleaning? Because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it’d be interesting to check that.”
