United States propagandists have settled on "uprising" to describe a top-down coup engineered by a foreign power against an elected government
#283
Imagine the U.S. government exercising half the restraint Venezuela's has shown, it's almost impossible.

Venezuela's government let a CIA front organization called the "Office of Transition Initiatives" operate in Caracas for nine years before finally shutting it down after a previous U.S.-backed coup attempt, even though they and everyone else knew it was an arm of a hostile government. Today, the government would be fully justified in putting a bullet in Guiado to save lives, and they still haven't done it.

If there were an equivalent to Guiado in the U.S., the White House would have had him shot by "special" thugs, then burned down the building with everyone else inside and claimed it was full of AKs, yellowcake and porn.

But this is the United $nakkke$ we’re talking about, and the problem the original-hire Trump people always have with themselves is, they’re too hyper and nervous, they seem to always think what they’re doing is super unusual sneaky spy shit that will get them caught, when all they’re doing is clumsily replicating what their predecessors did more successfully through a couple more layers of plausible deniability than Trump’s people know how to maintain.

I see John Bolton as an example of the sort of replacements who came in after the people I’m talking about got shooed out. John Bolton is a controlled boring Bush-era assembly-line-murderer version of the guy he replaced, the sort of person who sends Democrats to the fainting couch because he declines to get Paris and Brussels on board with the latest pogrom, and, I mean, making France’s government not want to participate in a pogrom takes some old-school effort. And that’s the sort of dull establishment horse-trading that’s come to dominate the Trump White House.

Most of those original-hire people got fired because they were unstable and new to Washington and liked to blab to the media about the White House. But I don’t think Bolton really has much of a life outside of staying on message about murdering Persians and so on. Like I can imagine him thinking up rude versions of the names of second-string diplomats from Iran while he brushes his teeth before bed so he’ll have some jokes for the briefing tomorrow.

This is like the most stupid and farcical coup ever, makes Napoleon III look like a genius. Sign of the times...

I also saw today that the United States is so upset by the events happening today it is threatening... sanctions on Cuba. This is like an algorithm. It's operating on auto-pilot at this point. Where's the creativity? Imperialism is like a drug. You get high all the time and it starts to fuck you up really bad. The rest of the world needs to sit down with the U.S. for a chat.

It's the most cocaine-fueled strategy I've ever seen, trying to start a civil war by telling your half of it they're showing up to claim a free small ice cream with purchase of large ice cream

SOLDIER #1: Wait, they think we're here to fight for Guiado? I told the wife I'd drop my kid off at practice tonight.
SOLDIER #2: Haha yeah, crazy stuff. Well, we'd better shoot all our co-workers over the next week or so to avoid embarrassment.

Hows discipline doing these days anyway?

better than her psycho enemies intended, I'm sure.

there is one way in which Guiado is my hero, because God willing, there will someday be a trending Twitter hashtag that is just my name followed by the words "has failed once again"

i doubt any of that happened the way it's described so i wouldn't boost it. IMO.

Colombia's satrap government has offered asylum to the armies of Guiado, and they've asked that if anyone is able to find one of those anywhere at any point in the future, could they please remember to give Colombia a call.

so the Peaceful Protest coup clowns stole and deployed anti-riot armored vehicles and set up 4 high-caliber machine guns on the highway... that'd be pretty violent-sounding if people didn't know their Protest was Peaceful from the English-language news. They're always looking out for us like that, I mean otherwise we'd recognize the Peaceful Protesters as initiating the use of deadly force during the event and the Venezuelan government as forced to respond to protect the Venezuelan people from the Peaceful Protesters' stolen armored vehicles and high-caliber machine guns

Like Bertold Brecht waving at Soviet tanks as they plowed into East Berlin in 1953, I admire the Venezuelan government's willingness to deploy the armored vehicles. Shows authenticity. Ideology is believing that interrupting an armed coup d'etat is "violence" while the coup itself is non-violent.
#303
a tentative lmao in case anything happens today

looks like the 'senior maduro officials' who promised to change sides may have been lying, prompting guiado's goons to make their move then stand around on a bridge like jackasses waiting for support that was never coming.

I would think Marco Rubio is lying but -- to my surprise -- he might actually not be all that he's cracked up to be, and at the time of this tweet had no idea what was going on. I hope he reveals the names of who was talking, so Caracas knows which ones weren't just stringing the coup plotters along on purpose.

This is like the most basic tinker-tailor double agent shit. I heard a saying apropos Guaido to "never arrest your enemy when they are made entirely out of mistakes."
#306
lol that's great. if ever a boy was made entirely out of mistakes it is the boy king guaido

Acting defense secretary Patrick Shanahan
#315
Shanahan was plucked from Boeing to be no. 2 at the Pentagon and then became no. 1 after James Mattis left. He knows a lot of about aircraft manufacturing supply chains but I think he might be in a bit over his head.

If you accept a recent Washington Post article, Bolton likes Craig Faller -- the U.S. imperial proconsul of South America, and is not a fan of the helmet-headed USAF Gen. Paul Selva, the vice chairman of the JCS, who is opposed to a military escalation and slammed his hand down on a table during a recent meeting because Bolton's staff were being pricks. His ring made a loud CRACK on the wood.

Don't know if that's true but he does have a big ass ring that I bet makes a good crack when you slam it into a table.

A bit of biography: Faller, the SOUTHCOM proconsul who Bolton likes, was plied with "expensive food and drinks while mingling with women in skimpy costumes and prostitutes" at a 2004 Christmas reception in Hong Kong put on by Leonard Glenn "Fat Leonard' Francis, a Malaysian playboy who bought up ports and gave admirals the hookup so they'd direct their ships into those ports for visits; U.S. Navy ships docking in your ports bring millions of dollars in logistics contracts.

can the amerikkkan empire fuckoff and crumble already before it destroys humanity totally

I just post about these generals because them and dickheads in other countries on the internet are the only people backing Guiado up which is why he was left holding his dick outside of a few rich neighborhoods in Caracas the other day

Yet if the week’s events underscored that the opposition’s hand is not yet quite as strong as it hoped, he said it also showed that Maduro is weaker than many had anticipated. He suggested that Maduro’s spy chief — who disappeared on Tuesday — had defected, though he would not elaborate. And despite Tuesday’s call for a peaceful uprising, Maduro has not ordered Guaidó’s arrest.

Why?

Because Maduro, he insisted, “is scared.”

Up, he also insisted, "is down", water "is dry",

a hot take so stupid i actually didn't see it coming: putin was behind both the coup plan AND its failure

https://www.thedailybeast.com/venezuela-coup-was-a-russian-plot-behind-the-failed-uprising posted:

According to a man we will call Alejandro, an organizing force within the opposition who has chosen not to affiliate with a specific party, the failed coup was actually a success, long term.

The original plan was for Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino LĂłpez and three other generals to negotiate with the U.S. to hand power over to GuaidĂł and have Maduro leave for Cuba, but at the last minute that operation went awry.

“Guaidó found out that they were going to arrest him and most of us think that he was simply set up,” Alejandro says. “The generals, with Padrino in charge, were going to double cross him and send Leopoldo López to Ramo Verde .”

So, Alejandro says, they go with a plan B; GuaidĂł and Leopoldo LĂłpez decide to advance quickly, counting on the FANB, the National Bolivarian Armed Forces of Venezuela, to support them even without the treacherous generals.

Russia, seeing that its plan to have Padrino LĂłpez seize power and ensure stability for their investments is about to go awry, has Padrino stop Maduro from going to Cuba to avoid a power vacuum that could allow the opposition to succeed despite themselves and, with the tiles falling one after one and their supposed protector GuaidĂł risking imprisonment, the FANB back out of the deal and the coup comes to a halt.

...Alejandro, a man who at least on the surface is still invested in the beautiful narrative of a national uprising led by the people and their chosen champion, sees the failed coup as a blessing in disguise.

“The reality is that if Plan A had not been aborted, today we would have a military dictatorship led by Padrino and in the service of Russia. The opposition wasn’t shot down, it dodged a bullet,” he says.
