https://www.memri.org/reports/chinese-ambassador-syria-we-are-willing-participate-some-way-battle-idlib-alongside-assad
As the Syrian regime army prepares to launch a campaign for the recapture of Idlib in northern Syria, the Chinese Ambassador to Damascus, Qi Qianjin, told the pro-regime daily Al-Watan on August 1, 2018 that the Chinese military would be willing to participate "in some way" in the campaign in Idlib or in other parts of the country. The ambassador expressed his support for what he called Syria's war against the terrorists, and noted that there is cooperation between the Syrian and Chinese armies. The report also quoted the Chinese military attaché in Syria as saying that the Chinese military wishes to enhance its relations with the Syrian military, and as expressing regret that Chinese Uyghurs are taking part in the fighting against the Assad regime.
only yesterday (25/08/18) Xinhua dropped this, which, although it doesn't explicitly mention the possible deployment of PLA forces, seems to indicate that the CPC's position currently remains basically compatible with the rHizzonE General Line on syria:
http://www.xinhuanet.com/english/2018-08/26/c_137418931.htmAt the time, the Syrian government charged that the Western powers are supporting the terrorist groups in Syria, vehemently denying claims of chemical weapons use in the battles with the rebels.
The government countlessly said that all the chemical arsenal of Syria was handed over the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), which later said that the Syrian government has made its chemical weapon production facilities inoperable.
But the Western powers continued to accuse Damascus of using toxic gas in the battles with the rebels.
Now the same scenario is being repeated in terms of the Western threats to launch attacks on Syria over the same allegations.
Analysts believe that the statement of the three Western powers aim to encourage the rebels with such reasons to strike the Syrian army as its emerging victories after more than seven years of war in the country.

i've put this question to people in arguments before, with the rhetorical aim of introducing them to the new vocabulary word "baathism" (and from there, further context veering off from state dept monster-of-the-week talking points)
but this article is like, somewhere, in response to that very question, a monkey's paw has curled up one of its fingers

i once saw a mate’s divorced dad lose a poker game and demand a share of the winnings anyway. he was so drunk he subsequently pissed himself and fell into some cat litter. that was still more dignified than how the yank is conducting himself in defeat here, tbh.

Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem said that British special services assisted terrorists of the Nusra Front group by smuggling canisters containing chemical weapons to several areas of Idlib — currently under control of the so-called White Helmet volunteer organization.
Speaking in a Saturday interview, Muallem claimed that the terrorists' plan was to use the canisters to stage a gas attack on civilians concurrent with an attack on Idlib and blame the Syrian government for the atrocity.

Children are naturals at language acquisition, to be fair.
President Bashar al-Assad of Syria must not recklessly attack Idlib Province. The Russians and Iranians would be making a grave humanitarian mistake to take part in this potential human tragedy. Hundreds of thousands of people could be killed. Don’t let that happen!

-dont you dare do it, dont you dare root out al qaeda
-it'd be a shame if any chemical weapons went off and we had to bomb you
-we've identified one hundred chemical weapons plants already, whoops my finger almost slipped and hit the button haha.. anyway..

They'd laugh the UN mediators out of the room. They wouldn't entertain dialogue and negotiated settlements for a nanosecond. They'd incinerate every man, woman and child in a 500 mile radius.
idk, they haven't burned down Fort Huachuca yet and that's like 18,000 right there

sierra vista is weird. in general the southwest used to have a pretty frequent flow of goods and labor over but after clinton's border push and san diego's 'turn the lights' on campaign you got all these rootless midwesterners coming in and starting local minutemen chapters. im curious where these people went (as in which groups do they claim allegiance to) as the right evolved over the years.

Amnesty International and the Norwegian Refugee Council also called for the planned assault to be abandoned, with both organisations fearing the consequences would be far worse than in other cities attacked earlier in the war.
“The shocking civilian death tolls and war crimes witnessed recently in other parts of Syria such as eastern Aleppo city, eastern Ghouta and Daraa must not be repeated in Idlib,” said Amnesty’s Middle East campaign director Samah Hadid.

Russian and Syrian rhetoric in the lead-up to the anticipated strike has depicted the area as controlled by extremist groups, particularly the al-Qaida-aligned al-Nusra Front. Opposition groups remain deeply divided, and an extremist alliance, Tahrir al-Sham, holds sway in some areas. Russia has demanded that Turkey use its influence in northern Syria to dissolve Tahrir al-Sham – an outcome that Ankara says it cannot deliver.
someone needs to tell the guardian it's not just russia and syria - even the UN now admits there's are 10s of thousands of jihadis holding the whole of idlib hostage
A Turkish-backed group of former anti-Assad units has, however, gathered strength in recent months.
very tactful way to describe jihadi death squads openly back by a NATO member state
