the world cup has been pretty good on Twitter. a bunch of people suddenly like soccer, explain they've always liked soccer, complain about the stereotypes that say people like them don't like soccer (as they've always liked it themselves) and then 99% of the rest of what they post reads like a YA novel where teenagers knife-fight each other for the world's remaining supply of pubic hair.
#884
people getting around region locks on streaming the World Cup has been causing massive VPN congestion, can't get any work done, soccer can eat a fuck
#885
VPN congestion from soccer, GPU price inflation from bitcoin... this world is so corrupt...

for some reason a bunch of "left" people on twitter right now are saying its So Important to pretend internet neo-nazis are highly organized supermen with unlimited resources and perfect organizational skills. which like, yeah the cops help them and a bunch of them are cops, but that also doesn't even accurately describe the cops?

also if you spend like five minutes in any of those freaks online spaces you realize the people being described are also the pettiest most back biting clowns imaginable because they all subscribe to an ideology that demands they mount and dry hump each other to establish their self worth, they spend like a week arguing over how to write a tweet to people who make video games, like 0.001% of them are willing to leave their houses at all & they are often heavily outnumbered, its just necessary to meet force with force

of course DSA types are not going to accept that the far right being clownish is both 1) true and 2) doesn't keep these guys from being state-sponsored thugs, because they want to think they are going to win debate club against guys who call themselves monarcho-anarchists or whatever idiot thing. but having seen these guys in action on these street: they are thugs, and they are also clowns, and dont limit yourself to one front when you can open up two

i think something key to remember is that there was no explicit equivalent in previous Nazi ideology to the stuff like the current Western far right's cargo-cult individual human ethology, pick-up artistry, etc. the Nazis ranked & graded humanity on the basis of racial groups, they didnt rank & grade a room full of their own people based on who they thought could get their dick wet the quickest

under the Nazis, if you were an aryan & you were in the right gang at the right time you were part of an elite brotherhood, working as one to suck each others dicks, until the leadership decided otherwise (e.g. the night of the long knives). internecine attacks, verbal & physical, were used to unify the group under a revised leadership, just as they were to unify a bunch of squabbling parties under the Nazi flag. not even that first part has happened yet on the far right

thats in part because in contrast, United States bootstrap individualism cleaves these current far-right cop puppet groups all the time... their points of ideological unity are things like, we are an unconscious parody of an ape troupe, created from what we read on blogs and watched on the Discovery Channel as kids, and we must constantly fight among each other to determine the silverback nerd

until they can work their way past that, the best cops the cops can use for violent attacks are going to be the real cops, with the internet Nazis of the world as relatively weak supplementary irregulars... but that also provides an opportunity for their opponents to make an example of them in public imo

i mean i agree with you toyotathon... some points i'd make here:

1) mocking the far right is never going to stop the far right by itself; that's dumb Daily Show / John Oliver shit that actively aids the far right; the far right is, in large part, backed by the mainstream police state, and force should be met with force as effectively as possible,

2) there is probably a tipping point in a possible future where the Actual Internet Nazis in the English-speaking world and their nebulous, multiple groups really get their shit together again under various national leaderships and become something more than roving, violent packs of cop-directed/cop-protected dupes deployed against Democrats / Labour in discourse and against street actions in force, and something bigger than a small wedge of the Republican / Tory voting base (which is otherwise still mostly old people who resemble glazed hams & are trying to save up to buy boats),

3) we are not at that tipping point yet, which again is obvious if you spend even a little time observing these guys' public spats with each other over the stupidest little things—petty, tiny crap that would make the most ultra-left sectarian feel ashamed to fight about—with none of their leading lights or pseudo-ideologies able to reel people back in once it's started,

4) without a leadership able to enforce camaraderie-or-death, these guys as individuals are currently still extremely susceptible to wincing and withdrawing after humiliation in public, because getting dunked on in front of girls in childhood or humiliated by their parents is usually something they have in common—in fact, it's often explicitly acknowledged as the reason they became susceptible to far right ideals when the young and guileless among them are asked about it,

5) the current far-right rank-and-file tends to become anxious & agitated easily, and will often fall on each other, with claws out, if they think they can score points on others within their current, unorganized day-to-day hierarchy, since they haven't reached that point of unified action and discipline,

6) another reason they worry overly about being humiliated in public or their representatives suffering the same is because of another disadvantage they have: they wrongly think their mission includes making their views mainstream, when they are instead an arm of preexisting mainstream politics, a blunt object wielded by the more-mainstream-than-mainstream bourgeoisie and state actors behind them, and more people believing in monarcho-theo-national-anarchism is completely superfluous to the far right's usefulness in their current roles as dupes & tools,

7) showing the usual inability to reason on the far right, and demonstrating that, as right-wing liberals, they are in large part indistinguishable from Democrat bloggers, they also believe that the people who push them around the board are beholden to them, like they think they elected Trump and he really gives a shit about their viewpoint or what happens to them beyond squirting out a few buzzwords here and there to keep people on message, when the sitcom addicts & donation packers who really elected Trump wouldn't want to sit next to most Internet nazis in the front row at the 50 yard line, any more than an antisemite German bourgeois type wanted to be trapped at a party next to a sweaty SA member,

8) the ultimate goal of most of the English-speaking far right's presentable "faces" is, at the current moment, mainstream media stardom and/or a sinecure in mainstream right-wing government, which they will gladly accept over and above boosting their far-right worshipers into the mainstream, since that's not at all necessary for the "face" types to get money and fame,

9) the "face" types think the Internet nazis who boosted their image are subhuman chumps compared to themselves rather than some sort of völkisch bund, since the ideology they both share demands that level of cynicism, and the "faces" are, again at the current moment, more concerned with riding the line perfectly to both draw attention and make more money,

10) given all that, it's pretty easy to see how dunking on those "face" types hits them where they hurt, and hurts the power of a bunch of gross, ugly nerds to convince themselves that they'll all be pretty and sexy some day if they keep tooling along,

11) none of that prevents the rank-and-file from carrying out attacks simultaneous to their constant infighting, especially under the instigation of and with the assistance of the state, which can be done half-heartedly by the state and costs the state next to nothing, since it's all done at the expense of the rank-and-file (or, in many cases, their unknowing parents)...

12) ...but it means that infighting, their quaking fear of getting dunked on, are possible points of weakness for the far right rank-and-file as a spindly, spasm-wracked arm of the police state, not to mention their publicly presentable idols, and even though it's not going to stop them, it's certainly one way to weaken them in the current moment...

13) ...and, maybe more important than that, given the current state of affairs, dunking on the far right in public arenas is often a great way to boost morale among socialists and draw positive attention to them from potential supporters (or just people who will get out of the way and let them work).

...one final thing that comes into play here isn't a point about the far right, but matters all the same.

I think that a lot of people on the Western political left tend to project their own perceived history of sectarian conflict onto the current far right. The truth is that the current far right are, as they are to a great many things, kindergarten-level novices as to how to reserve internal conflict within and between their groups and among their loosely affiliated individuals. The radical political left (or whatever you want to call it) takes action in spite of the police state; the Internet-based far right, again at the current moment, can only take action with the support of the police state. Their dependence on the state bolsters their usefulness as tools.

So I think some people on the political left see the general lack of worry on the part of the far right when it comes to internal conflict, or the relative frequency of the far right's aimless, roving attacks against their enemies, and assume it's because the far right has resolved the problem of internal conflict, or it's not a problem for them organically, or whatever.

It's the exact opposite, from what I've seen: the far right is in deep denial over their internal splits and the constant upkeep required by the state to keep them from falling apart. I imagine there's probably also a fair amount of debate within the police state over whether they're worth it at any given point when they're used, given that the far-right rank-and-file are largely a bunch of supreme fuck-ups at life in general right now.

It's completely possible to acknowledge the advantages that state support, and, in certain cases, membership within the state, affords the far right, while also sussing out how it weakens them and keeps them weak. And I'd argue that parsing that out in any given historical moment, the weaknesses inherent in their advantages, and acting on that information, is the approach that has wrecked the far right time and time again throughout history.

I think you can also disagree on some or all of the points above and still acknowledge that, while people's personalities are a result of social forces, in any group capable of achieving goals, you are still going to end up with a variety of personality types. Some people are going to crack jokes and some people are going to be deadly serious in the same situations, and it doesn't necessarily mean that they aren't able to achieve worthwhile things working together, that they're getting in the way of achieving common goals, that they don't care about each other's well-being or that they aren't dedicated to a common cause.

cars these posts you are making are too good for the twitter thread where nothing of value is supposed to be posted, please reduce the quality of your posts about twitter.

i'm putting them here because my own recent work organizing suggests to me that fights over tone on this level don't happen a lot when it's not Online. there are arguments over things people say and do within groups, sometimes vicious ones, both justified and unjustified, but i haven't ever seen anyone get mad when stank-lords who start petitions against superhero movies get roasted over snacks, even if people were trading punches with them earlier that day. in places like Twitter though it's probably pretty easy to map people you know already, and don't like, onto people you don't know and who rub you the wrong way, so you, like, assume that if someone cracks a joke and you don't think it's funny, it's because they'd report you to the FBI for a delicious Coca-Cola soft drink.

i've only been to dc very briefly and only to catch or get off buses but it is very short. there's one of those old ass european rules about nothing being taller than the capitol building or something. it makes it feel squat and fortified and claustrophobic. at least when buildings are skyscrapers you can feel like you can see far at least in the up direction. i don't like short cities. london is mostly short too.

touching on what I posted earlier on this page, mark ames put something on Twitter about the guy who shot up that newspaper office in Annapolis that claims the following to have been a guiding document for his decision to do what he did. I believe it:

this is what I mean about the state the far right is in no matter their microgroups’ tactics. this one is apparently popular and for fuck’s sake imagine treating this as your strategy document.

^^

Now, what would prevent private armies and fiefdoms, armed to the teeth and set chaotically one against another, from springing up all across the land? For one thing, it just isn’t practical. If I want an Abrams tanks and I live in a suburban neighborhood, where am I going to park it? More importantly, where am I going to drive it? Most of our roads, even the vaunted Interstate Highway System, don’t have surfaces designed to accommodate large, tracked vehicles.

like, current far-right groups adopting entrapment tactics to better collaborate with the cops & courts, that’s worth anticipation to prevent ineffective reaction. but you drill down to what passes for their independent strategy & it hasn’t improved since the Clinton years, it’s pretty much, go crazy and shoot a reporter and I’ll see you all this coming fall in the Big Rock Candy Mountains. And what they actually do with it, I mean, compare this recent shit with Tim McVeigh.

i sometimes wonder if the current far right can ever put it together without the establishment police state wiping their asses, unless someone from ZOG teaches them how to be soldiers first, like, the Great War scenario where a bunch of semi-trained German vets had nothing better to do than wander around and wage war on grocery clerks, repping Hitler until he had them shot. But the potential examples who join the Internet-based far right are all even-more-broken-than-usual-Troops types who were too antisocial while enlisted to absorb that shit properly, and when you send the meme man among the Oath Keepers they just choke him out. Those smeary-biker-tat guys stealing body armor from Bragg must send it straight to Azov Battalion and the fuck away from their own proud cracker brothers.

I’ll probably never become one of those bug eyed teeth grinders who thinks lonely boy spree killings are secret FBI black ops, but the more of this shit I read, the more I understand why some people find it easier to believe that these guys must all get shipped to Quantico before the big day, where someone shows them how to use a map on their phone for the first time.
