youre gonna have people come to leftist politics from a variety of class positions. i see nothing inherently wrong with party members running businesses - how else is the organization supposed to make sure cadre are regularly employed and able to do work for the branch? there are problems with this of course, but those issues are navigable and its not like we're lifestylists

this is a thing in most US parties. the ISO has a sliding scale sheet provided to every member, whereas the PSL just requires dues in general

idk how to feel about some of that stuff. i understand watering down socialism results in reformism and useless social democratic politics, but if a few people there start reading BPP stuff because they saw a Fred Hampton quote then im ok with that. i got into Real Shit through chomsky and zinn like im sure many others did here. double edged sword i guess....

some crazy old jewish guy who looked like travis bickle cornered me in a coffee shop last night while i was reading and drinking a beer and he starts talking to me about how he has a ph.d in engineering and has written 30+ books but can't make it because academia is all run by immigrants then when he found out i was a communist he told me he would have murdered me if he was in vietnam again. this is why cafes are an invaluable resource.
