one interesting possible suggestion by this image is that the communist party USA had little effect on american history. the other is the US wasn't thinking about socialism during the cold war. another is that groups like black panthers and SDS were not part of the public debate. another is that socialists gauge their popularity primarily through how bourgeois liberal parties talk about them. anyway pretty sad.

there was an interesting debate in another thread over the CPUSA being landlords and if there's any way a left org could get a self-sustaining revenue source w/o seeming like hypocrites.

youre gonna have people come to leftist politics from a variety of class positions. i see nothing inherently wrong with party members running businesses - how else is the organization supposed to make sure cadre are regularly employed and able to do work for the branch? there are problems with this of course, but those issues are navigable and its not like we're lifestylists

this is a thing in most US parties. the ISO has a sliding scale sheet provided to every member, whereas the PSL just requires dues in general

" 'He would go shake a person's hand, and as they started talking to him, he would pull away and move on, ' Mr.Ronesfield said: 'He knows how to connect and then discontent with people in a way that makes feel a little bit obligated to him: 'This great man shook my hand, but he had to go save the world, and I feel obligated to understand and support him in that.'"

" 'How are you?' Mr.Sanders asked.

I'm good, but I'm voting for Trump, the man said.

Mr.Sanders walked a few steps, turned back and opened his mouth as if to reply-but not a word came out."

idk how to feel about some of that stuff. i understand watering down socialism results in reformism and useless social democratic politics, but if a few people there start reading BPP stuff because they saw a Fred Hampton quote then im ok with that. i got into Real Shit through chomsky and zinn like im sure many others did here. double edged sword i guess....

some crazy old jewish guy who looked like travis bickle cornered me in a coffee shop last night while i was reading and drinking a beer and he starts talking to me about how he has a ph.d in engineering and has written 30+ books but can't make it because academia is all run by immigrants then when he found out i was a communist he told me he would have murdered me if he was in vietnam again. this is why cafes are an invaluable resource.
#69
Did you tell him you would have killed him too, or if he surrendered, captured him and made an earnest attempt to make him see the light that is communism?
