All of this should be standard commentary in any mainstream debate and yet these words are relegated to the fringe ramblings of old men who are no longer with us. Also, these are entertainers who, like the media, government, the president and academics are beholden to the people so they have to lie or withhold their true beliefs or they're cut off and starved for not giving the lies the people want.

Whenever the truth comes out like this it is truly a miracle.

So, if anyone wants to add to the despair -- or just give a one line insult toward me for no reason -- feel free to contribute.

Hunter S. Thompson

We have become a Nazi monster in the eyes of the whole world, a nation of bullies and bastards who would rather kill than live peacefully. We are not just Whores for power and oil, but killer whores with hate and fear in our hearts. We are human scum, and that is how history will judge us. No redeeming social value. Just whores. Get out of our way, or we'll kill you. Who does vote for these dishonest shitheads? Who among us can be happy and proud of having all this innocent blood on our hands? Who are these swine? These flag-sucking half-wits who get fleeced and fooled by stupid little rich kids like George Bush? They are the same ones who wanted to have Muhammad Ali locked up for refusing to kill gooks. They speak for all that is cruel and stupid and vicious in the American character. They are the racists and hate mongers among us; they are the Ku Klux Klan. I piss down the throats of these Nazis. And I am too old to worry about whether they like it or not. Fuck them.

George Carlin

Bill Hicks

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurt_Vonnegut

In 2005, Vonnegut was interviewed by David Nason for The Australian. During the course of the interview Vonnegut was asked his opinion of modern terrorists, to which he replied, "I regard them as very brave people." When pressed further Vonnegut also said that "They are dying for their own self-respect. It's a terrible thing to deprive someone of their self-respect. It's your culture is nothing, your Race is nothing, you're nothing ... It is sweet and noble—sweet and honourable I guess it is—to die for what you believe in."

"Whenever I ask about Pepsi-Cola or Coca-Cola, people immediately say it is an American or European drink. This is not true. The kola is African. They have taken the cheap raw material from us. They produced it, they made it into a drink, and they sell it to us for a high price. Why are Pepsi-Cola and Coca-Cola expensive? Because they have taken our kola, produced it, and sold it back to us. We should produce it ourselves and sell it to them."

in 1972 while he was on the campaign trail with nixon, hunter s. thompson fell asleep on the journalist's bus and the resulting nightmare where nixon won the election is basically what we've been living through
#10
the punchline is that nixon has been our best president the past century
#11
there was never a good american president so it's kind of a moot point to argue over who was the best one

he spent more on social programs as a percentage of the gdp than any other president, made peace with chairman mao, ended the vietnam war after secretly bombing cambodia, integrated local schools, implemented the first affirmative action programs, and appointed more women to administration positions than any other president before him. he is the most leftist president.

the nixon tapes where he talks about reagan are funny but let's not forget that he was merely an historically necessary actor for his time and his policies were nothing more than an extension of that

obviously but the fact remains...

i liked fear and loathing on the campaign trail and the book about the hell's angels as entertaining writing and not as socially significant as some would have it, but everything else i've read from him, especially his late period sportswriting, was dire to the point of self-parody

bombing cambodia helped delegitimize the corrupt capitalist government and allow the people's movement to take over

this is my favorite george carlin bit

"Now, there's one thing you might have noticed I don't complain about: politicians. Everybody complains about politicians. Everybody says they suck. Well, where do people think these politicians come from? They don't fall out of the sky. They don't pass through a membrane from another reality. They come from American parents and American families, American homes, American schools, American churches, American businesses and American universities, and they are elected by American citizens. This is the best we can do folks. This is what we have to offer. It's what our system produces: Garbage in, garbage out. If you have selfish, ignorant citizens, you're going to get selfish, ignorant leaders. And term limits ain't going to do any good; you're just going to end up with a brand new bunch of selfish, ignorant Americans. So, maybe, maybe, maybe, it's not the politicians who suck. Maybe something else sucks around here...like, the public.
