“What is our aim?
It is the use of the constitution for the benefit of the people.
Who is likely to oppose us?
The rich and the corrupt.
What methods will they employ?
Slander and hypocrisy.
What factors will encourage the use of such means?
The ignorance of the sans-culottes.
The people therefore must be instructed.
What are the obstacles to their enlightenment?
The paid journalists who mislead the people every day by shameless distortions.
What conclusion follows?
That we ought to proscribe these writers as the most dangerous enemies of the country and to circulate an abundance of good literature.
The people- what other obstacle is there to their instruction?
Their destitution.
When will the people be educated?
When they have enough bread to eat, when the rich and the government stop bribing treacherous pens and rogues to deceive them and instead identify their own interests with those of the people.
When will this be?
Never.”

— Maximilien Robespierre

Now of course this isn't true domestically since the media and government, despite what most leftists believe, act as an honest accurate mirror reflection of the people's will. The people aren't good so of course the media and government aren't going to be good. This is just what democracy looks like.

But from a global perspective, if you look at how the people pay the media to lie to them about how wonderful they are as they support dictatorships, war, exploitation, etc., you can see that on a world stage the rich nations are those who are corrupt and lie to the poor.

The tool they use is the military which they defer responsibility to and use as a way of absolving themselves of responsibility by using every soldier's death as a Christ-like sacrifice for every sin they commit. They throw their dumb asses into a volcano to placate the morality gods so even when a few thousand out of 310 million die the American people can now say "we're sacrificing" as if that offsets the millions who suffer and die at the hands of this nation's military.

Going against the will of the people and the corrupt media, government and military they suppport is like going against God. You are going to lose but it's a fight that needs to be fought.

Look at John Brown, the members of the White Rose Society, Bradley Manning and the Tunisian who burned himself to death and started a revolution. People who are willing to do what is necessary and good for humanity are like miracles and they always, always get crushed. Accept this and you can do what is right for humanity.

The quoted passage states that the media misleads people with shameless distortions, and it does. why you think that would be contradicted by the media being an honest mirror of the will of the people, I don't know.

Also lol at the idea of watching a zizek

in the works, I've been rereading an ancient text and writing out chapter summaries. I can't find much in English online about the text, despite it being one of the longest and most complicated economic texts from the ancient world. It should be new to some people here, so hopefully it'll prove interesting and fresh. I posted a chapter in the stickied thread, although I've since updated that summary; the text is mostly about state monopolies and commodity trading.
