in any case community policing and neighborhood-watch groups have proven to be effective models of crime control and community building, empowering local leaders to solve their own problems. These efforts reflect the Catholic social teaching principles of solidarity, subsidiarity, and the search for the common good. And just as victims of crime have a variety of needs, so do offenders and their families.

I hope that if Zimmerman is imprisoned that he will benefit from punishment that has a constructive and rehabilitative purpose, sorely lacking in many American prisons today. Not all offenders are open to treatment, but all deserve to be challenged and encouraged to turn their lives around. Programs in jails and prisons that offer offenders education, life skills, religious expression, and recovery from substance abuse greatly reduce recidivism, benefit society, and help the offenders when they reintegrate into the community.

Often the most difficult time for a former inmate is trying to reintegrate into his or her community. Some parishes have made available church property for transition houses while others assist in providing the spiritual, material, and emotional assistance that the probation and parole system rarely provides.

Similarly, our presence to victims must be compassionate and constant, which includes developing victim ministry programs. Such programs will teach ministers to acknowledge the emotional strain felt by victims, to understand that the search for wholeness can take a very long time, and to encourage victims to redirect their anger from vengeance to true justice and real healing.

IWC if anything you should be pointing out how Zimmerman is part black not that he's "hispanic" because he's from a mostly white and some afro heritage family but you can't even do the most basic research for your clumsy troll. for shame, i say again. you've lost your whole work ethic since you quit your job and went on the dole.

it's p. clear that zimmerman has some mestizo blood in him and can't be defined as a "white hispanic" the same way Shakira and Fidel Castro can be.

however, it's also p. clear he had a privileged upbringing and his vigilante stalking activities were generally approved by the predominantly upper class white community he lived in.

only because at first racist organizations and second amendment fanatics were defending zimmerman's right to 'stand his ground' or w/e. but at this point it seems as though most of the vocal support for zimmerman has died off. the reason for this is because it's really fucking apparent that he resorted to excessive force and was in the wrong

He didn't really harass anyone it seems. That's the prosecutions case but its not holding up so far

Current status: a bunch of liberals who want Zimmerman in jail gloating loudly because the State's witness prepared written notes for answering the defense's questions and refused to give them to the defense and was of course forced to do so by the judge, but that meant the State's witness got the chance to act really snippy to the defense on national television for a few seconds and generally make it look like he has it in for Zimmerman
