i went to swampmans apartment once irl and he had a bunch of stuffed dogs and also dog skulls mounted on his wall and when he saw me staring at them like wtf he put his hand on my shoulder and said, "RIP, to those who died." and I was still sort of uncomfortable but he was like, "you know, from the LF internet forums." and then we both laughed and I was like, "oh, right."

My downstairs neighbor has a 4 or 5 month old puppy and today when I came downstairs with the dog I'm boarding, he was there with his friend, who has an adult dog with a biting problem. his puppy barked. So he said its name and told it "no" and "stop barking" (thus rewarding the barking by giving it attention) and then he picked it up and performed the Alpha Roll on it. so I asked him where he learned to do that. He said... various sources, people he knows with dogs. I asked him if he believed all that dominance theory stuff and his friend said, "you need to shut the fuck up" to me and talked over me until he could take their dogs back inside.

so of course I left them a nice note on their door encouraging to do research into, for instance, what the association of pet dog trainers has to say about dominance training

just fyi if you physically punish or intimidate your dog you are not being a good person and you are hurting your dog.

The idea that dog behavior can be explained through the application of wolf behavior models is no more relevant than suggesting that chimpanzee behavior can be used to explain the intricacies of human behavior.



most people who use that training would probably get to that line and close the window b/c they consider the writer hopelessly naive

looks like dominance theory doesn't work on dogs, but it seems to work on you. since that was complete beta behavior. loser.
