We were just discussing limited nuclear war in one of my doctoral seminars earlier in the week as a method of global economic jump start. A WW3 with nukes limited to just field grade weapon systems, tactical nuclear artillery, may be just what the world needs to lift us out of the doldrums of the current economic morass the world finds itself in. Everyone believes other wise but it was not Roosevelt's new deal that put the financial starch back in the shirt collars of the world, it was the massive retooling and war profiteering from WW2 that ended the great depression . Korea, Vietnam and a dozen or so little piddles like Grenada provided a jolt when needed here and there.
A 3-5 year conflagration could just get the economy humming right along. The most difficult part would be choosing up sides but our group felt that this could be accomplished by stoking and factoring in aged hatreds that have been simmering on the back burners for ever. Take India, what ever side it is on then Pakistan will have to be on the other. Then, depending upon the dynamics of that split then Russia and China could be factored in as they still wish to punish each other for slights both imagined and surreal. An Australian pan South China Sea contingent that have hated China for centuries could be off set by Europe dragging it's tail into the Russian camp.
North America could once again take the role of major arms supplier and South America could provide cannon fodder mostly.
Once the dust settled and the world had shed 3-4 billion people it could return to a lean new level for good old fashioned deal making.
“Long live the White race!,” the article concluded, “Long live the communist revolution! Let us vow to die in the trenches of combat before ever even considering the thought of surrendering our European-American Nation!”
lmao damn that guy rules. he should post here and mustang19 should leave forever

epic same except i didnt have the excuse of being psychotic
tpaine posted:oh my god you guys i treated a bunch of well-meaning people badly, clearly i must be psychotic and not 9/10ths of the people you could hawk a loogie at just standing still on the sidewalk, wow
i don't want to use that as an excuse or anything. a more relevant distinction would probably be the difference between how i behaved (guilt) and who i am (shame).
anyways, i posted that and the stuff about the psychosis that i don't feel comfortable talking about for anyone affected here, to which i'll add that i'm sorry

In a surprising turn of events, the Fed announced this morning that it is ramping up its quantitative easing policy. As you know, it has been buying $85 Billion in bonds every month, boosting its balance sheet above $3.3 Trillion.
Ironicwarcriminal posted:laika what's the deal with the student debt bubble? is it going to have big repercussions?
im not laika, but no because short of fleeing the country and hoping you don't get dronestriked student loans are unavoidable and not removed through bankruptcy.
TG posted:if you work for the government for ten years they forgive your student loans, which means a huge portion of this generation will work in public service and have a renewed appreciation for helping others through government, eventually leading to a socialist utopia
austerity bitch. enjoy your frozen salary and/or layoffs
cleanhands posted:im not laika either but actually the answers yes because a large part of those student loans arent getting paid back whatever happens, with 'big repercussions' either for financial products derived therefrom or for economic theorists clinging to the idea that money is a thing that exists
the loans will be paid back because there isnt any realistic method of discharging them. due to that its not really a bubble and people will just be paying on them into their 60s. the lack of suitable borrowers will contribute to lowered lending standards and another real estate bubble though.
cleanhands posted:lol ok if we assume history ended then yeah the us student debt bubble will be no biggie
if you think contributing to a credit bubble that will likely end in a depression is "no biggie" i guess youre probably right. because theres no way to discharge the debt and the loans are guaranteed by the government theres no risk to lenders. student loan forgiveness isnt going to happen because lol american politics so its much more likely that itll feed into weaker lending standards across the board to boost sagging consumer spending and contributing to another credit bubble

not a whole lot to add
one way to look at student loans is borrowing against prospective income. to the extent that income doesn't materialize because of the shitty job market, you will have the income of graduates being diverted to service debt instead of being spent on real output, which means less income available to employers for hiring and paying employees (including graduates)

gob bless you and your struggle. I feel selfish now for my resentment at not having the elusive 7th job.
