A German official says Justin Bieber had to leave a monkey in quarantine after arriving in the country last week without the necessary papers for the animal.
The 19-year-old singer arrived at Munich airport last Thursday. Customs spokesman Thomas Meister said Saturday that when he went through customs he didn't have the documentation necessary to bring the capuchin monkey into the country — so the animal had to stay with authorities.
Bieber performed in Munich Thursday night on the latest leg of his European tour. He's giving several concerts in Germany and Austria over the next week.
Bieber had a trying stay in London recently, first being booed by fans when he arrived late at a concert, then struggling with his breathing and fainting backstage at a show.

Indians jail marauding monkeys

THE inmates of India's only monkey jail are a disgruntled bunch.
"Arrested" from across northern Punjab state for various "crimes", they glare and snarl at visitors from well-guarded and heavily-barred cells in a corner of the Motibagh Bir Zoological Park in Patiala, 220 miles north of New Delhi.
"All 11 monkeys are hard cases who have been apprehended by game wardens for thieving, terrorising and biting people," their jailer, Ram Tirath, said. "It's unlikely that any of them will ever be paroled."
Yesterday, while a senior general was holding a press conference in New Delhi, there was a loud explosion and the sound of scurrying feet. "Don't worry gentlemen," Gen S Padmanabhan said. "It's only the monkeys being chased."
Wire mesh stretches across the windows of the office to protect him. "We fight a see-saw battle against these monkeys," admitted a senior military official. "For the moment we seem to be on top, but the scales will no doubt soon tilt in their favour," he added.
