when i have a daughter im not going to ban her from reading women's magazines (or watching porn for that matter). if she doesn't grow up with the proper analytical framework then i will have failed as a parent and will lock myself and the entire family in the garage with the engine running

which is exactly my point. the medium of TV is pretty much by definition full of extraneous bullshit. The Sopranos and the Simpsons in it's heyday (actually x-files at the time too) were the only shows i've ever done that with. Otherwise, you're just getting jerked around by producers who want to put out as much content as possible to maximize their money.

So what story or lesson or insight does breaking bad offer in it's, i dunno, 60 or whatever episodes that couldn't be portrayed in a two hour movie

ive been watching sons of anarchy and it seems to be another kind of white supremacist fairytale, just good ol' boy bikers keeping drugs outta their town, taking care of their families, avoiding engaging with state apparatuses and representatives, selling guns to warring ethnic gangs (including actual nazis, as if to prove how post-racial white supremacism is these days) and all that good stuff. even more than breaking bad though all its characters are fucked up hypocrites. whats the deal with netflix uk having all these shows, is it trying to tell me something
