I’ve seen a whole bunch of shit on the guardian about the bushfires here in Australia and a bunch of cardigan-wearing commenters saying “heh, still think global warming isn’t real? Well how to you explain these FIRES (in forests filled with trees that reproduce by burning) or the fact that it’s REALLY HOT in Australia in January huh!?!??!?!”

My point is that the entire dietary infrastructure in the world is ecologically damaging to a huge degree anyways. Nutritionally balanced vegetarian diets are (for the most part) a completely modern invention and require a massive expenditure of fossil fuels. I mean, certainly many people lived (and still live) off of grain heavy diets, but malnutrition was high and was it offset by the intense physical toil of daily life. The fact is: all food is killing you in some way, and if you want some "optimal health" in terms of longevity, it would probably be some type extreme calorie restriction diet, and that would be even better for the environment!

As for red meat, the primary differences between it and white meat are what NazBro said. There are entire cultures that have survived with minimal eating of plants, and are more than healthy. Fuck, the inuit diet primarily consists of red meat, and they have amongst the lowest rates of coronary disease in the world.
