The Walt Disney Company has acquired Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion in cash and stock, and announced a new Star Wars movie to be released in 2015.

Kathleen Kennedy, current co-chair of Lucasfilm, will become Lucasfilm's president, reporting to Walt Disney Studios chair Alan Horn as part of stock and cash transaction.

“For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next,” said George Lucas, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Lucasfilm, in a statement. “It’s now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers. I’ve always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime. I’m confident that with Lucasfilm under the leadership of Kathleen Kennedy, and having a new home within the Disney organization, Star Wars will certainly live on and flourish for many generations to come. Disney’s reach and experience give Lucasfilm the opportunity to blaze new trails in film, television, interactive media, theme parks, live entertainment, and consumer products.”

a new star wars film might not necessarily be bad if lucas had limited creative control

Kids born in the 21st century and last decade of the 20th century dont like the old star wars bc htey are boring and lame. dwi.
#4
a lot of writers are producing stuff under the star wars brand that is of good quality - the early expanded universe novels, the bioware games, the clone wars cartoon.

i have yet to meet a person born after 1990 who truly, unironically, uncynically likes anything. even seven year olds with attention deficient hyperactive disorder are punctuating their verbal diarrheas and tumbling ungrace with "FAIL!" and "EPIC LOL FOR THE WIN" and its just heartbreaking

the only good part of star wars is the love plot in the prequels

the prequels (unsuccessfully) try to tell a more nuanced and politically progressive story than the original series, which is essentially lip smackin' fall off the bone reaganism

space cooter was right.
#12
yes, the love plot between brother and sister was the best part of the series, schizoanal for the win
#13
Uh he was actually referring to the love plot involving a grown women with a young man a bunch of years her junior
#14
they would have probably appealed to more american movie goers if they would have added a couple rape scenes.

Uhhhhhh yeah its really bad somehow that all the greatest and coolest marvel comics superheroes and all the characters from the star wars films, the gendry tartosktartavy animated star wars shorts, and even the star wars expanded universe games, books, and comics and now all combine to become the greatest role palying vidoe game experience of all time. Sounds like another win for the consolidation of capital, if you ask the opinion of this unabashed current goon.

im just waiting for lego star wars 7

Imagine Song of the South, but Brian Rabbit is Wolverine & Han Solo is his Friend Dave Rabbit or whatever. Soon, you won't have to imagine it, except when you inevitably will while you're driving home with your new DVD, of that.

so basically it turns out everything the jocks said was right: people who like space shows are weird, physical fitness is important, marxism-leninism is scientific, geez.

Wow and you know what else> I hope this whole thing isnt powered by google. Lol sorry for all the sarcasm tho. Actually I do hope it's powered by google.

Late capitalism is so decadent. When 'fountain' by Duchamp came out it changed the art world. Same with seminal works like Ulysses, Waiting for Godot, etc.

When Watchmen came out, everyone just ignored it and went back to making fascist comics and fascist movies of those comics. Same with movies, rather than deal with the new terrain of great movies in the 70s hollywood just produced a bunch of crap like star wars and now we've become so decadent we can't even make new crap. I always thought it was ironic we read 'The grapes of wrath', 'the jungle', and overtly socialist literature in school when something like that could never be published or created as a movie today.
#24
lol are you comparing watchmen to ulysses and waiting for godot?
#25
there are lots of great movies nowadays, like waiting for guffman
#26

And in the past I've loosely thought about suicide a few times, and I'm glad I didn't, because there's always something that makes it worth living. For me it's new discoveries in space, or new comic book movies.

this announcement has added at least ten years to his life

i don't really get star wars. the old ones are visually impressive but why any adult would be interested in them is beyond me.
