i can't remember if i first read it here or not, but i remember an article circulating years ago written from the pov of a journalist who was embedded with us special forces somewhere in africa (maybe nigeria?) as they were training the military.

it was grounded but still really well written and evocative--does this ring a bell to anyone? i've always hoped to find it again
