the fbi and local law enforcement sent letters to various organizations repudiating each other in an effort to increase division (principally between Us and BPP). a bay area member left the panthers and came clean to being a snitch, which caused a frantic search for agents inside the movement. several people were killed and in an effort to decrease tensions the killings were disavowed by leadership, which further increased paranoia about middle cadres (local branch leaders) being informants.
snitchjacketing kills people, thats all i was trying to say, and it seems odd to me that someone active in the period would miss the lesson
