edit 2: dialing back the rhetoric a little until i have actual sources confirming b/c im a sissywimp

Edward Smowdem, Renowned Master of Leaking, said it's the biggest leak ever.
It also seems to be the most polished leak ever, since there's already a nice interactive website for it and everything.

i wonder what this all means.
Over a year ago, an anonymous source contacted the Süddeutsche Zeitung (SZ) and submitted encrypted internal documents from Mossack Fonseca, a Panamanian law firm that sells anonymous offshore companies around the world. These shell firms enable their owners to cover up their business dealings, no matter how shady.
i've never really seen this concerted of an effort before to leak such a massive amount of incriminating documents by multiple news agencies so I guess that's kind of off putting and makes me think there's some other narrative-driving purpose for this leak, other than the information found within the leak itself.
whatever. I thought this was a big enough thing to make a thread about.
leak.

PRESIDENT: You think, you think we want to, want to go this route now? And the--let it hang out, so to speak?
DEAN: Well, it's, it isn't really that--
HALDEMAN: It's a limited hang out.
DEAN: It's a limited hang out.
EHRLICHMAN: It's a modified limited hang out.
PRESIDENT: Well, it's only the questions of the thing hanging out publicly or privately.

it's from a whole bunch of internet reactionary nerd types (r e d d i t) who are super vigilant about a whole bunch of people in countries they have nothing to do with and know nothing about being "brought to justice" and anyone who has any issues with this legitimate or otherwise is labeled as a terrorist sympathizer and supporter of censorship.

The journalists compiled lists of important politicians, international criminals, and well-known professional athletes, among others. The digital processing made it possible to then search the leak for the names on these lists. The "party donations scandal" list contained 130 names, and the UN sanctions list more than 600. In just a few minutes, the powerful search algorithm compared the lists with the 11.5 million documents.
For each name found, a detailed research process was initiated that posed the following questions: what is this person’s role in the network of companies? Where does the money come from? Where is it going? Is this structure legal?
It's like listening to someone describe their PhD in Advanced Applications of Chomsky, a whole field created by misinterpreting his criticisms as a set of instructions.
