like so many things in the zine scene they're "pay what you want," you can just ask someone to open up the machine and take out a zine. it is literally a tax on bizarre socially incompetent people with too much money, as described in tpaines post.

i would say "haha clever" and then keep walking and not put in the extra 3 seconds of effort it would take to press the button probably unless i was there waiting for someone and had literally nothing to do
