i think most political and societal problems are basically communication problems, which is a nice way of saying people are too dumb to understand anything outside of their own framework of reality or(/and) language, so it's up to you to translate meanings from your conceptual meaningspace into theirs. and if you can't do it conventionally than you can shove something into their heads that will accomplish the same translation subliminally via ads and bullshit. so if you want to Effect Change just keep shoving ideas into people's minds however you can, over and over, more and more. and if it sounds like too much work then embrace nihilism. just because you are well-read and were fortunate enough to receive a somewhat effective education does not make you superior to the people who are not and did not. also, most people dont get deeply involved in political theory, history, and politics because theyre too busy providing for themselves and involving themselves in family, friends, and community. finally, even if your subjective estimation of your own intelligence relative to others is in fact tethered to some semblance of truth, "being intelligent" does not make you superior, and, hell, neither does being a socialist.

most of my peers are intelligent, well-meaning people, at worst "socially liberal" libertarians. i also interact with various people from all strata of society, including a lot of union members who happen to be truck drivers or factory workers or laborers, and i generally find most people to be reasonable, especially if one takes into account the context of their lives. most of them probably contribute more of material value to society than i do.

we're all products of our environment, dontchu know. hate the game (capitalism OR broken education system OR fuckn FLORIDA) not the player (the working class OR people generally OR )!!!

as a public defender, i interact daily with some of the most ignorant, self-centered, short-sighted, immoral people you can imagine, and those are just the prosecutors.

i have to explain legal concepts like reasonable doubt, custodial interrogation, and hearsay to people who often haven't made it past the 10th grade. they are wife beaters, drunk drivers, and shoplifters, rapists, burglars, and animal abusers - and yes, some of them are Troops or veterans. most of them are on some form of disability or other social assistance and for a lot of them its undeserved. basically, most people's idea of poster children for why the human race is fucked

somehow i manage to drum up compassion for all of them, shocking as it may seem. why? i spent a lot of time and effort coming up with my own reasons, no way im sharing them with you for free
