you can get to the bahamas for extremely cheap ($25-50) if you take the mail boat from f lauderdale. one time i hitched there with a bunch of friends a few days before the boat was scheduled to leave. we celebrated our departure with a few bottles of competitively-priced bourbon. after an egregious 18 hour bender we got on the boat only to find we wouldn't be allowed to go on deck because the weather was pretty squally, so we all wound up barfing into one of those wheeled mop buckets for fifteen hours. memories
