i was joking about the school thing.

i would lean on any friends or family (i know) who might have a hook-up for a job; their good word will be worth more than 10,000 cold applications, and most of the better jobs are filled via some sort of personal connection.

tutoring or looking after kids is also a relatively nonphysical, non-demeaning, obtainable job that can pay quite well, depending on your connections, test scores (for tutoring), etc.
