i'm going to a social worker to talk about various social programs and how they could help me. then i'm going to read about the tax increase on rich people in ontario that is planned by our government, which is expected to raise $625 million a year. i think this means there will be a new top rate of 50%.

im going to my wifes union rally, theres some kinda pre-bargaining meeting w University management. however things r pretty screwed cuz the TAs are represented by CUPE but the RAs who work in the same dept as them are for some reason under the United Steelworkers hence effective strike action is impossible to coordinate lol

i was a steelworker once. they organized a call centre i worked at. i was technically enrolled full-time at a university 300km away and i took off a sick day to write exams and was fired. i wonder if you're like a steelworker for life or something.

http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/kerala/cpiml-naxalbari-cpimaoist-merge/article5964021.ece

The CPI(Maoist) and the CPI(ML) Naxalbari have merged and the new party will be known as CPI (Maoist).

In a joint statement here on Wednesday, general secretary of CPI(Maoist) Ganapathy, secretary of CPI(M) Naxalbari Ajith said the unified party would take Marxism-Leninism-Maoism as its guiding ideology.

The statement said that they were announcing the merger of these two parties β€˜β€˜on the occasion of the international day of the world proletariat, the glorious May Day, with great sense of responsibility and firm conviction to strengthen the vanguard of Indian proletariat, which is a contingent of the world proletariat.’’

It said that the Maoist movement came through the great Naxalbari uprising of 1967.

Inspired and led by Charu Mazumdar and Kanhai Chatterjee, founder leaders of these two parties, thousands of leaders and cadres laid down their lives to advance the revolutionary movement.

But after the setback of early 1970s and the martyrdom of Charu Mazumdar, the Communist revolutionary forces were divided into many groups.

all the magnolia, cherry blossom and pear blososm trees have been shedding their flowers here and when i was walking home i saw a little girl picking up big handfuls of pink petals and throwing them up in the air letting them shower down over her. i quietly murmurred thatsw some win to myself and smiled, walking the rest of the way home with an extra spring in my step.
