i've seen v. little evidence that Putin is personally responsible for such acts.

no but at the new years party i was at they (a group of dudes that seriously called themselves 'the gays' commandeered the stereo and put on some pretty lame tunes including fireworks by katy perry when the fireworks went off over the harbour at midnight. this is literally true though. queer sympathies are ruthlessly leveraged to get the idiot left/center/whatever on board with xenophobic racism, islamophobia, neo-colonialsim etc, all while distracting from legitimate lgbt issues both at home and abroad. why struggle for the rights of your neighbors (both literally and internationally) when you can get spoon fed self-righteous indignation and have your cathartic good deed feelings come from the state's grandiose imperialist impositions on the scary foreigner.
also major US establishments (mostly churches, but not only!) send so much money to radical murderous gay bashing groups (and the moderates that only support legalized murder by the state) abroad that it is literally an international proxy war on buttfucking.
the lgbt situation in the US is totally in the shitter culturally and it's barely any better legally, imposing milquetoast superficial US bandaid values abroad isn't worth the cost of everything else they come packaged with. thank you for your time.

I think American culture is lot more monolithic than you're giving credit. However, what unites Americans isn't any sort of master signifier, but a common pathological narcissism that's fed by the media, which of course is indistinguishable from the good old military-industrial complex. So people have all sorts of identities, but we're all connected by a common feeling of a lack of self and disconnection from history. Figuring out what you actually want and learning how to be free is scary, so the media gladly sells us who we are and the political movements we're part of. For example, women no longer need to be threatened by patriarchy to use beauty products because the media already tells them that's what they want and so they not only believe, they feel empowered, they feel like wearing make-up makes them a feminist. This is why identity politics is so dangerous because it isn't politics at all, it's advertising.
