Atwill asserts that Christianity did not really begin as a religion, but a sophisticated government project, a kind of propaganda exercise used to pacify the subjects of the Roman Empire. "Jewish sects in Palestine at the time, who were waiting for a prophesied warrior Messiah, were a constant source of violent insurrection during the first century," he explains. "When the Romans had exhausted conventional means of quashing rebellion, they switched to psychological warfare. They surmised that the way to stop the spread of zealous Jewish missionary activity was to create a competing belief system. That's when the 'peaceful' Messiah story was invented. Instead of inspiring warfare, this Messiah urged turn-the-other-cheek pacifism and encouraged Jews to 'give onto Caesar' and pay their taxes to Rome."

Rome could easily crush Judea if they rebelled, and they did. Perhaps Jesus taught peace because he wanted to avoid the destruction of his people.

"Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep instead for yourselves and for your children."

how could rome have destroyed Judea if Jesus was willing to defend them with his omnipotent necromancer powers

like he could have opened a hellmouth right under the coliseum and had the angry dead erupt from every grave in rome. wasnt necessary to sit there and whimper and get the shit kicked out of him like a pussy

God was not interested in miraculously defending Judea due to their infidelity. In the OT, during the time of Joshua, God supports the Israelite armies and judges with angels and miracles. But as time goes on Israel betrays God, so he has armies invade Israel and Judah and kill them all as a penalty for their apostasy.

Jesus, who was God, gave teachings to Judea to be peaceful to the Romans. He clarified his teachings and corrected and chastised the priests. He wanted them not only to repent themselves, but to spread the true word of God throughout the nations, as the prophets foretold. But they rejected his teachings, they rebelled against Rome, they were destroyed by Rome.

what a shitbird that guy is :awesome:

also even if Jesus and Yahweh were different aspects of the same dude i don't think that there's anything that showed that jesus was omniscient in life. in fact there's a couple of times iirc where he and god don't seem to be on the same page at all about very basic and important stuff like "you will be horribly murdered." it would be pretty awkward if jesus finally died after ruling the world for a thousand years with his awesome necromantic power and god was like, you idiot, you were supposed to be tortured to death in your early 20s and jesus was like, what
#50
i dont know this guy sounds like kind of a pussy to me. like what kind of dude just takes shit like that from some fuckin romans? if it were me i would have kicked their fuckin asses and like shot some lasers out of my eyes or some shit and fucked a dude up. then i would have summoned up a bigass truck and a huge tow strap and pulled over the president or whatever of romes house or something to show them i wasnt having any of their shit. i dont know why youd worship a dude that just says yolo and gets his ass kicked like a fuckin nerd
#51
if jesus said yolo hed be lying
#52
dude seems pretty dead to me

Jesus was human he was just another prophet of God like Muhammed, Moses, etc... his story just happens to be incredibly sad and, in my opinion, the most identifiable of the prophets for most people

#54
Elijah, Jesus, Muhammad, PKD, Alex Jones, mustang19, the list goes on and on
#55
did mohammed have magic powers? moses and jesus did obviously. theres a part in the bible where moses goes to see pharaoh, who was the potentate of the most powerful empire in the world, and is all "Let my ppl go!" and then uses his magic to try to make the point because he's not some noodle-armed D&D liberal worried about political realities like Jesus. anyway the part that people don't seem to note is that when moses does this Pharaoh sends out his two court sorcerers who match moses completely in wizard power and can do all the same tricks. there's no interpretation of events there that isn't hilarious

mustang do you know much about rare earth minerals and China's dominance over the industry? seems down your alley
#58
Rare earths are not particularly rare. The current supply problems are due to Chinese industrial policies since the 1990s that bought up processing capacity in the rest of the world and shipped it to China. Now that demand and prices are picking up there's prospecting going on in the rest of the world which will find enough new resources for a while.

The depletion rate of rare earths is uncertain because they are used little now. I'm pretty satisfied with ignoring them and basing my theories on things that have established uses.

This is something on dysprosium.

if it makes you feel any better, youre most likely only the descendent of late-millennium converts and thus could easily be rehabilitated back into national solidarity and non-exile after a short but intense regimen of marxist dialectics and free weight training

I still have things to do. I could remind Crow that most Afghans support the Karzai government over the Taliban because he at least tries to develop the country and not turn it into some 6th century piece of shit. I could remind Jools that colonialism is responsible for public healthcare. But I think Rhizzone will never be cured of its leftism.

I've failed to convert you to libertarianism, Rhizzone. And it irritates me.

you converted me to libertarianism. but i'm an accelerationist, so i think the best way to get to libertarianism is to construct global socialism.
