SPOILER AHEAD

The finale was kind of disappointing and predictable
#5
i predicted all the major points in the episode (Badger and Skinny Pete with laser pointers, poisoning the Stevia, Walt hiding behind the post in Skylers kitchen, Jesse strangling Todd with a chain) and while it did feel weird that a show that was so unpredictable ended in such a neat, wrapped up, fully predictable way, the only part that actually felt disappointing to me was the very very last shot. Should have ended with the bleeding, gutshot Walt taking a seat in a chair, gun in one hand, weary head resting on the other in a modified iconic Conan pose, surrounded by the remnants of his former empire. slow zoom out as the police lights reflect off the walls and metal of the lab. Walt coughs, closes his eyes, little more zoom as you juuust start to see flashlight beams moving across the room. cut to black

Really, the biggest villian of all in Breaking Bad is the state. Without the government's evil "war on drugs," prohibition enforcement agencies like the DEA, and a healthcare system rigged with state-capitalist regulation, none of these events would be possible.

some commentators have pointed out that most stories about evil dudes make the evil about doing what is easy, not what is hard, while breaking bad isn't. that's really true, walt had a bunch of opportunities to do the easy thing and chose the hard thing instead (take elliot's money, let gus kill jesse, forget about the nazis)

if you think about it, breaking bad is a celebration of white supremacist settlerism, with walt, entitled white man, taking over a business dominated by an economically disenfranchised class of native descendants. as the show goes on and walt's empire grows he moves on to administering his trade with the help of a comprador native bourgeoisie (gus) and, after disposing of him, dispenses with the pretensions and maintains his power through the use of literal fascist thugs

walt should have smoked he own meth
