Global kiss-in rallies protest Russia's anti-gay laws
Same-sex couples kiss in front of Russian consulates across the world

People around the world shared smooches on Sunday to protest against Russia’s recent crackdown on its LGBT community.

The global kiss-In, dubbed “To Russia With Love,” drew same-sex couples to the front steps of Montreal’s Russian consulate over the weekend.

Rallies were staged at 3 p.m. in major cities across the globe including Vancouver, New York City, Washington D.C., Paris, Athens, Barcelona and Helsinki, White Complainers.

Protesters were also expected to gather in Toronto at 6 p.m., at Yonge and Dundas Square.

The international rallies come in light of recent laws enacted in Russia, which are meant to restrict members of the LGBT community from living openly. The laws also threaten to arrest openly-gay tourists on holiday during the Olympics.

As athletes around the world prepare for the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics, kiss-in organizers say they hope the rallies will pressure the International Olympic Committee and local governments to call on Russian President Vladimir Putin to “stop the human rights violations of LGBTQ people.”

Putin is quaking in his rubber boots, splattered with blood and grey matter, at the sight of these men unashamedly kissing one another in public.

yuck! go to russian jail

btw from talking to a russian supporter of those laws he said they are mostly used to combat "Homosexual Propaganda" in Western Media, and that he does not support violence against gays nor does the government

frankly i have no opinion as that hopeless race of shitfaced cretins is doomed to misery and failure whether they censor one direction videos or not, and who am i to judge a dying creature's last flailing attempts to defend itself from the imagined boogeymen of its self-inflicted destruction

well, i don't think that's quite true, it's mostly aimed controlling western media. i mean, it's a stupid fucking law, and shouldn't be implemented. but the thing is, the east has a kind of prison mentality to the west. the fact that a bunch of rich western queers are protesting it i feel is just going to further push russians to keep it up out of spite if nothing else. not to mention, it's just going to reinforce queer-sexuality as a kind of western degeneracy in some people's minds. and it's beyond bewildering that somehow now of all times western liberals have found an interest in russia's sexual politics.

that all sounds true, but they specifically said they're going to arrest gay protesters, tourists, athletes, anyone making vaguely pro-gay statements at the olympics...? they are hosting a major international event and sort of telling gay people around the world not to come, there are more important things happening in the world, sure, but don't minimize how fucked up this is, or how bad an internal situation these signs represent. lol some kid got arrested under this law for protesting with a sign when his homophobic dad turned him into the police. whatever, i'm ignorant about russia and i agree the protests are dumb and liberal and ineffectual, but i understand why people are doing them. i'm glad i live in gay as fuck new york

sure, i agree with what you're saying. i wasn't saying that there are more important issues or anything like that, but (afaik) these laws were being passed oblast by oblast since something like 2006, so the timing that the international media would pick up on it now is weird.

Are there elections going on in Russia or is it just a Syria-related thing

weird how? couldn't it just be the olympics approaching?

i mean, it's possible, but the olympics are going to be managed through the federal level, and while the kremlin may be willing to play aloof in general, it's not going to want any public scandal surrounding the olympics. so i'm pretty sure, nobody competing has anything to worry about at all.

i'm not aware of any important elections, and it's not like bringing this shit up internationally is going to affect the domestic vote. i kind have to think it's partially related to syria.

for fun, I'll wager that there's at least one arrest of an athlete under the law during the Olympics. Fifty fake fun bucks
#31
It's mostly related to Snowden but Syria is part of the picture as well. Must be disturbing though to be self-aware enough like Roseweird to know that what you care about is entirely manipulated by the western media to support "humanitarian" imperialism, but to still be manipulated all the same.

i don't think you have to subscribe to liberal new york values to agree not to seek out and arrest international visitors at a major international event for being gay. i think it is weird to host the olympics and add "p.s. but if anyone gets too gay they will go in a russian prison". you can avoid beating/arresting/killing gay people for like, a week, right? truce?

by the way i live in queens

Maybe it's not really a concern of America's tho? The Olympics is a celebration of athletic ability (and Money), not sexuality or 'lifestyle'. I was a fairly vociferous critic of Monarchism when I was growing up but when I went to Thailand I managed to avoid saying 'fuck the king!'.

Whatever happened to 'when in Rome'.....

you can avoid beating/arresting/killing gay people for like, a week, right? truce?

Likewise, people can avoid waving rainbow flags and listening to house music for a week right?
