i know 3 workers from the campaign just as acquaintances and the person who runs the national campaign, very well. the article is right, it's not a typical strike with the typical goal, it's about raising awareness about who does this work and how shittily they are treated. i liked what swampman wrote re: McD's awhile ago in that ultimately, these places shouldn't exist but in the meantime their ruthless overlords should suffer as much as possible through press and financially (as D says). also the student visa abuse is a very serious and actual good work can be done on that right now. my city along with others are also finding success with wage theft ordinances in rtw states. we may not be able to organize as easily here but the unions are finding other avenues

I guess since you said it on the internet that makes it so. Let's commence to scrubbing all network, affiliate, cable, online, and print coverage of these actions since last Dec. If our son of Jackson doesn't know about it, it ain't shit! Btw, could you also fill me in on the acceptable amount of time this now nationwide campaign which first started in NY with 10 stores, has to operate? How long do they have to impress you/ activate more workers? When is time up for fast food workers to make their points in a public way? Sarcasm and sabotage aside, what is your actual point or idea? How should low wage workers be organizing in your opinion? What is the best model for organizing to demand a living wage that you've used in the past?

This is a really good point, and something that you are uniquely qualified to take advantage of.
Convince them with silly jokes, borat + sienfeld, and emoticons.
I'm serious.

Against this hegemony of the system, one can exalt the ruses of desire, practice revolutionary micrology of the quotidian, exalt the molecular drift or even defend cooking. This does not resolve the imperious necessity of checking the system in broad daylight.
This, only terrorism can do.
discipline posted:I'm sorry if your union is being shitty with kickbacks but rest assured as rank-and-file you can kick up a big stink about it. do organizers or enforcers come around? the best position to radicalize/pressure a union is as a rank and file member. if you seriously want more info we should talk
this but the democratic party instead

Before long, a PR worker subcontracted by FFF for the day (to “put the workers in touch with the press,” as he put it) interrupted Franklin and me, wanting to know who I was. “You’re from VICE?” he exclaimed. “That’s awesome. Hold on, let me find you someone from the Williamsburg McDonalds!”
haha that's a real quote

“Fuck the Democrats!” John, a retired letter carrier, union member, and general eccentric who came out to support the fast food workers, had told me earlier in Union Square. “I respect the Republicans more, they just come out and say, ‘We hate the working class!’”
John is cool

What I can't understand is how every employee at every McDonalds hasn't gone on strike already. What have you got to lose? Your job at McDonalds?

When I was young, when I started watching stand-up, when I was 11 or 12, there was “Evening at the Improv” and “Comic Strip Live…” on TV And my absolute favorite was Amazing Jonathan. I was so happy when Amazing Jonathan would come on. I still like Amazing Jonathan, it’s just the same fucking act from when I was 12. That was the greatest. I loved Jeff Dunham when I was young, too. I thought that was the best fucking thing I ever saw, that Jalapeno on a stick. And he would go, “On a steeek…” Tears would come to my eyes; it was so great.
Superabound posted:haha The Amazing Jonathan. i remember that guy
i like when he stabbed his squeaky-voiced female assistant in the head with a pair of scissors because the cornerstone of all comedy is violence against women
