Grumblefish, what do you think are good qualities that you need to be a prosecutor?

It sounded pretty lame to me at first too, but I went last year and there were a few LF vets in the crowd (mostly from the 2010 election megathread, "Mid-Terms Ahoy: This Time With 50% More Batshit Wingnuts") and it was a riot. I ended sloppily making out with some girl who is a Pet Island posting superstar too, lmao
I wanna go makeout with a pet lol

Depends on the society and the particular institution that we're talking about. If we're talking about the sort of person, then I would want a moralist who has at least a slightly aristocratic view on things. If we're talking about work practices that will make you successful at the job, then the person needs to be dedicated to criminal law and the cases that they have on their plate. It's easy to do paperwork at the last minute, not read any case law, and not prepare any cases in depth, but it's going to show when you're standing in court, talking with victims and witnesses, or when other prosecutors have to come in and clean up your shit.

Which is funny given how the majority of nuclear power plants in the U.S. are crumbling derelect wrecks built decades ago.
another important factor is that the scale of potential costs for insurance is so high that nuclear plants just have to be exempt from them. so basically nuclear plants have their emergency safety costs shouldered by the public. but that cost isn't priced into nuclear.
a big issue is just that once you commit to nuclear it creates a huge system with inertia. so like the nuclear industry will present costs for a well-run system over two decades or whatever to get the plants built. but, again, they never reasonably build in systemic problems into their costs. so maybe a tenth of the generators go down for safety reasons (this is common) and you end up having to pour hundreds of millions into the plants. and the system is so dependent on that nuclear load that you have to go to the only flexible alternative which can get up and running quickly and that's old coal or gas.
which ties into the other thing, which is that if, say, half your power supply is coming from nuclear, well then nuclear can pretty much set the price, and there isn't much you can do about it. so with cost overruns and externalities and periodic shutdowns that never made it into the sticker price then what happens? your electricity costs shoot up. which is why ontario's energy model includes doubling electricity prices over time to shore up 50% nuclear while diversifying into wind and shit. which is sort of regressive.
but like the most obvious fact to me is that there are obviously huge issues of urban/building design and such that make us so dependent on cheap energy. i mean that's like consensus now but like there are so many low-income buildings with ancient appliances and shit (mine are from the 1960s) and landlords won't buy new appliances unless they are absolutely forced to and low-income people aren't in a position to bid them up so you end up with 1960s energy efficiency in one part of your system when you're arguing you need cutting edge clean energy in another. and i sort of doubt their numbers but the ontario ndp said that if you just took the money that was planned into nuclear builds and put it into large-scale energy conservation projects that it would be a wash in terms of load.
