it's not related to any one specific post but goons falling all over themselves to declare how much they hate anime/non-western vidya games (except cowboy bebop and metal gear solid those are totally the cool ones honest) is never not hilarious.

ive never really understood that because it basically amounts to "I hate this thing because it was made in X country"
i mean by all means dont enjoy animation ( :dinoo: ) or having to use subtitles or whatever i just dont get why ANIME is a thing like that rather than just being animation that happens to come from one place

I try not to side with goons on anything but I can honestly tell you I love a lot of animation but despise anime. It definitely isn't the subtitles - I don't even notice them - or the origin - I watch foreign films nearly every day. The conventions of the art style are revolting to me - I can't stand looking at the grotesque anatomy and featureless faces that only emote in stock shorthand form. And that's not even getting into tropes like the sexualized women with child faces and impossibly squeaky voices or anything like that. I've never managed to talk about this without getting attacked by anime fans who want to play trapsies about how anime X doesn't have this thing I mentioned and anime Y doesn't do that so why won't I admit I'm lying about my own taste, but seriously. I can't stand it, other people feel the same way, and people just aren't obligated to like the same things in this world.

okay but saying theres one uniform anime style or that problems present in a number of shows is like saying every single western tv show is full of misogyny and violence because theres a lot of them that are
its not like people who like anime shows like every single anime show ever made just because its anime

Hey so if being an asshole to someone else while they're defending anime's honor is an unforgivable crime, what do you think of "disrupting threads and harassing mods and calling them horrible people until they either give you what you want or quit in frustration" part of this situation? because i think it's really tiresome and maybe pretty shitty also, and it's something that's been happening time and time again with these people on multiple forums and in numerous irc channels.

i'm not slashie's friend and i only know igby as a poster in womenthread. i barely interact with either of them. what i am is someone who's seen this happen on a disturbingly regular basis and is fucking tired of it.
i'm also lyesh's friend, and i got sick of watching a woman who's exhausted herself trying to make this community functional get yelled at by these people on a nightly basis until the quality of her life genuinely started to suffer. i saw her do everything she could to be even-handed and agonize over the decisions she made over this and every other decision associated with the site, even though she initially didn't plan to be actively involved in the modding of the forum at all. and all they had to say to her -- after she initially sought ash's input and got wholly noncommittal answers -- was that she was a piece of shit if she didn't do exactly what they wanted.
you aren't the only people who suffer from severe, crushing, collapsing-to-the-ground anxiety, but some of us don't use it as a fucking bludgeon to win arguments.
