lol i work with mostly black kids and most of the problems that are described in that essay result from , as you're probably aware, a total lack of understanding of how to deal with different cultures. most people in my line of work, when initially faced with this misunderstanding, resort to the only tools they know how to use, which are threats and force. i'm continually amazed that people don't realize that when you tell a group of people that have historically been treated like dirt (and still are lol) that they aren't worth anything, that they can't behave like the nice whites, etc. you're going to get a reaction that is not only not what you want, but is in fact the exact opposite.

and then they moan "well i gave them these opportunities to learn etc. etc., they should have looked up this and that it's not my fault" and i' just like... man how do you expect these kids to know how to do that? who taught em how to use a library? do they even have access to one? or computers? or why would they even bother to waste their precious time working to make you happy when you're the one, through your unconscious actions, who is treating them like garbage in the first place? kids are looking for validation, love, and understanding. if you can't deliver those things, you honestly shouldn't be teaching. doubly so if you're working with a culture you don't understand.

also i have the toughest time dealing with my white kids b/c they take advantage of this misunderstanding between white teacher/black student. kids aren't stupid, and they can be ruthless little opportunists.

haha one week it was "youre in a parking lot. theres a van full of troublesome looking teens that is approaching you and gaining speed. do you attempt to disable the vehicle?" and all these dumb faggots got on top of their pepsi fridgepak boxes to post "YES, SHOOT THE DRIVER IN THE CNS AND ROLL OUT OF THE WAY"
