I know someone who is a male nurse and he is very masculine and strong, but also kind and gentle. I would describe almost everyone he associates with as "conservative" and they have no qualms whatsoever with his profession. If his family were wealthier and more established it might be seen as an odd career choice but seeing as he comes from a rough background I think everyone sees him as a shining example of someone making a life for themselves.

That said nursing is over-saturated by women and it's hard to get steady, comfortable work in it unless you are exceptional.

what world do you live in where being a male nurse is generally seen as being weak, pathetic, unnecessary, amusing, disgusting, or transgressive

The audience is supposed to identify with Ben Stiller, who is in that common situation of having to get along with an elderly family member with backwards, outdated, and insulting views. The whole "Men can't be nurses and women can't be doctors" thing is so old it's actually become shorthand for "the crazy shit people used to think."

Actually, I think the film mostly mocks Stiller and supports the view of De Niro (although it pokes some fun at him too, mainly his over-the-top CIA surveillance). I mean his name is Gaylord Focker. De Niro, on the other hand, is called Jack. It's actually a rather political movie contrasting cosmopolitan ideas (e.g. male nurses) with traditional values.

Not to mention: "He accidentally breaks Pam's sister's nose during a volleyball mishap; uses a malfunctioning toilet that floods the Byrnes' back yard with sewage; sets the wedding altar on fire and inadvertently leads Jack to think he is a marijuana user. Later, Greg loses Jinx and replaces him with a stray whose tail he spray paints to make him look like Mr. Jinx."

no, you're psychopathic so you're reading this wrong. we identiy with Gaylord's as the authentic everyman bungling in the sadistic authoritarianism of the Old Fart's fiefdom

Greetings, Fockerbot SV2-31. Central Computer has hyperassigned This One to upgrade your tolerability circuits. After this update, errant but harmless neo-spinach growing on drone teeth will no longer call Scoff.dll to active processing.

It's in quotes because it's taken from the plot segment of Wikipedia. Although I've seen the first movie, it was years ago.

Its a condemnation of non-nuanced views on subjects like drag. A single short question containing a poorly defined metric (what would the Stokely Carmichael of gender?) is labelled, "Discussion." God help us.
