Uh, that's not what I meant at all. The purpose of sex is not, and hasn't been for a very long time in evolutionary terms, solely reproductive. See the elder male lizard allowing the younger to enter his territory so long as he gets to bone the younger one. Look at the cows and hen mounting each other to signify they've entered heat to the males. one might also argue that there's more to food than nutrition so nutrition couldn't possibly be the 'purpose' of 'food'.

It makes sense to speak of purpose for any part of behavior or biology that has one. My throat has a purpose. A sex drive has a purpose. But just as my throat allows both air and food, sex provides both reproductive and non-reproductive benefits.

Kind sir, if you had read Jared Diamond, instead of just buying into an lf stereotype you would've known that Jared Diamond says nothing like that, his entire book is an overview of traits which are often viewed as unique to humanity and whether parallels exists within another animals. So obviously since Humans are a largely sexual animal he also covers animals with arguably similar mating rituals, there's an entire chapter in that book about arbitrary sexual selection.

The purpose of showing these parallels is not, the way you describe it, to redefine humanity as a bunch of automatons, but rather to explore the presumed origins of our behavior and everything that it yielded since (aka human civilization).

i don't think most dudes would fuck other dudes the second society stops telling them not to. i live in the state with the strongest protections for gays in the country, and i have a friend and immediate family social group that is 100% accepting of homosexuality. i personally don't have any problem with gay people and support increasing their rights. nonetheless i dont pop wood to guys. i simply don't find men attractive. i know that this might be difficult to grok for a person who allegedly has no sexuality, but normal people are attracted to certain people and not attracted to others.
