The universe issue is a statistical bet. If you assume that our universe is capable of producing more than one simulated universe, you might assume that the act has already happened and we are more likely to be living in a simulation than a reality.

The biggest problem I see with this argument is the paradox of the model - whereby it is impossible to create an accurate model without approaching impossible complexity and memory storage. Also, the more complex and accurate the simulation, the less than you can learn from it - because it approaches the same difficulties of understanding as the real thing itself. For example - the weather forecast is basically a small simulation version of a more complex system. As your weather models get more complex, they get harder to understand and thus become less useful as they approach the same difficulty as the actual weather. This problem applies to all kinds of systems which seek to simulate reality.
