ive been trying to listen to country for a while now but it just aint takin. i dont like the instrumentation, the twangs seem generally really affected, and some 80% of the songs are about ladies and i always find myself wishing that, you know, there were some about trains, or dear old southern homes

to what country have you been lending your ear

edit: keep in mind that it is nearly 100% a completely contrived art form created deliberately e.g. "old timey" music in the teens, 20s and 30s or whatever

women don't "check men out" they are strictly rational when it comes to such calculations. evolutionarily speaking a female who based her choice of mate - arguably the most important choice with the most direct and strongest bearing upon the propagation of her genetic information that she could ever make - on irrational and thus suboptimal emotive factors would tend to remove herself from the gene pool and such examples should gradually diminish

yah if you want to listen to country don't listen to anything done after 1976

it seems like the further you go back, unless you go into western which seems like its own fairly distinct thing, the line between country and bluegrass gets thinner and thinner. like old johnny cash or hoyt axton have much more in common with bill monroe or doc watson than they do with people like keith urban

Not D&D obv - but about 10000 liberals getting indignant over an actor who lied on NPR about Apple tech factories in China, making them seem slightly worse than they actually are.

As it turned out, the factories only destroy 90 lives per 100, not 95 as the Marxist previously claimed on our radio show. Also, we did some fact-checking and the name of the crippled gentlemen he claims to have interviewed is Dave, not David, as the Marxist previously claimed. We have to retract our whole story ladies and gents because after some phone calls to economists, we concluded that Apple brings China out of poverty and doesn't deserve such harsh critique.

I reallllly wish I were making this up.

i wouldnt call that fat idiot a marxist. especially since there was apparently an undertone of naive and earnest "WESTERNER VISITS THE SAVAGE EAST TO GET THE REAL STORY" because all those other journalists, especially local ones, obviously never attempt to because theyre too ignorant, including the workers themselves who need an american savior to get them to start questioning their own conditions.

hes just another ostensibly well-meaning but irrevocable damaging liberal trying to further his career by fabricating story details which has the ramification of damaging the cause for those who actually care about chinese labor conditions. the criticism of deplorable work conditions in china stands on its own, without the need for hyperbole and fake details.

yeah zizek is dumb

zizek wouldn't really harsh his audience's buzz by referring to something as passe and "material" as working conditions in the places that make their toys

I was being hyperbolic with the marxist tripe. i do think that bougie western artists have better opportunities to bring stories to westerners - mostly because they aren't under the constant threat of political police. i can't imagine a chinese journalist doing an expose of local factory and regulatory enforcement would get very far before being utterly crushed and never heard from again.

fat "ineffectual" daiseyman was able to gain access, get interviews, and get safely back to his comfortable lifestyle in the states. credit where credit is due. his bleeding-heart liberal-guilt monologue probably turned a significant number of people against apple and big tech where they otherwise wouldn't have cared - and nothing that he lied about in the monologue misrepresented anything significant about the human conditions of the factories there. if he has to rearrange chronological details to get a stronger response - that's fine with me.

this story irked me especially because i instantly recognized the techniques ira was using when he questioned mike on the accuracy of his story. ira was pushing inconsistency in minor details to make the essential and important points of mike's story seem false, which they weren't. it's the oldest sophist trick in the book, used mostly for intimidating otherwise sincere witnesses. grumblefish can tell yall all about it if he ever comes back.

but i have a soft spot for the dying art of monologue, so i'm a biased mark.

chinese people don't need exposes in fancy magazines to know that their working conditions are terrible and oppressive dude
