If your definition of the police state is so narrow it absolves the medical-pharmaceutical apparatus of any possible suspicion
if we want to treat this as a purely philosophical question (which again, we shouldn't, because science exists), let's break it down, shall we?
1. pharmaceutical companies are untrustworthy
2. pharmaceutical companies make covid vaccines
3. covid vaccines are untrustworthy
now i don't have a phd in logic but this doesn't add up for me. maybe we're missing some steps? we could do a pros and cons list perhaps. has anyone crunched the numbers on how much money pfizer stands to make if the vaccine turns everyone into lizards vs how much they make if the vaccine works as advertised?
science doesn't exist outside of the medical-pharmaceutical apparatus, pardon teh french structuralism
new thread title
in this case, though, they'll actually talk to the livestock a little. "here's your damn bon-bon; now get back to work, meat"

toyot posted:their clinical mRNA was around 80% intact, commercial 50%. that means their trial did not reflect what we received in the vials for most of this year.
that's not what the article says, as far as i can tell.
According to one of the leaked emails dated 25 November, positive news had come from an undisclosed source in the US: “The latest lots indicate that % intact RNA are back at around 70-75%, which leaves us cautiously optimistic that additional data could address the issue,” the email said.
you can reasonably say there's cause for concern that consistency was not achieved for some time after that but it's pure speculation without data.
furthermore, the article is clear that this issue would only impact efficacy, not safety.
maybe the problem isn't that vaccines are imperfect, but that they're being treated as a magic bullet by governments desperate to reanimate their economies at any cost. i think your vitriol is misdirected and confirmation bias isn't doing you any favours.
the fact is, as i said long ago in this thread, there is PLENTY of evidence that the vaccines are safe and effective, and that makes them the best (and only) tool people have to protect themselves and their communities from this plague that the capitalists would be happy to see kill most of us.
liceo posted:part of what i think is objectively socialist is breaking down the function of imperialist society with material information and establishing a sound conclusion instead of waiting around to see what happens and then reacting to it after the fact. that's all that people should be doing
okay, but that's not really what toyot has been doing - not yet, anyway. i hope they take my invitation to continue the above conversation in such a way, but so far what they've offered is attempts to make evidence fit their preferred conclusion, and i don't think it's terribly unfair to characterise that as propaganda.
in any case, what definitely IS socialist is having a robust discussion about contentious issues like this, and holding each other to whatever standard the issue warrants - in the case of vaccination, a matter of life and death, surely a high standard is fair.
